Canelo Alvarez’s blockbuster showdown with Terence Crawford has now been scrapped.

The rivals were set to meet in Las Vegas on September 13 at super-middleweight but The Ring magazine is now reporting the fight has been cancelled. The meeting would have seen Crawford move up two weight divisions and the postponement comes days after reports suggesting Alvarez will fight Jake Paul in May.

Crawford had been pushing the fight for almost a year and both men recently spoke to Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh in London – who has been a huge advocate of this mouthwatering showdown. Terms were believed to have been agreed with an official announcement imminent.

Following the recent meeting with HE, Alvarez was expected to sign a three-fight deal with Alalshikh and was expected to compete in the ring before taking on Crawford in September. Previous reports claimed that ‘Saul’ would be open to a showdown with IBF mandatory challenger William Scull before talks opened with YouTuber Paul.

As for Crawford, the undefeated American star recently moved up to 154lbs and took on Israil Madrimov – where he eventually became a four-weight world champion. Last year, it looked like a clash between the pair was seemingly off the cards after Alalshikh revealed he had no interest in pursuing it anymore. His Excellency had the dust-up at the top of his boxing wishlist and even made the offer to ‘Saul’, but talks between the pair broke down.

Both Crawford and Alalshikh jumped on an Instagram live during UFC 306 back in September – with ‘Bud’ going on to call out Canelo following the latter’s win over Edgar Berlanga. “Yo Turki, tell them we are going to go for Canelo next,” said Crawford. “Yes,” replied Alalshikh. “Let’s go! Canelo, come on. We are ready.”

Crawford then added: “You heard it from him. Just put me in the game b****. Canelo-Crawford, the biggest fight in boxing. But we stay ready though. We stay ready, that way we ain’t got to get ready.”

Serena Williams’ family has a new addition on Instagram!

On Sunday, Oct. 13, the retired tennis star, 43, and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, launched their 13-month-old daughter Adira’s official Instagram account. Adira joins big sister Olympia, 7, on the social media platform.

“Oh hello there – I know it’s been over a year but I’m just getting to this,” read the caption of the debut post, which was made in collaboration with Adira’s parents’ Instagram accounts.

The post contains a selection of images of the toddler, beginning with a sweet shot of her sitting in a pink high chair as she looked toward the camera while eating an array of food.

The carousel continues with a snap of Adira lounging on a chair wearing a pink floral onesie with one of her hands in her hair, followed by a photo of the little girl in the same outfit with a red pacifier in her mouth as she stood near a couch.

The fourth image shows Adira standing in a pair of yellow bell-bottom pants and a white and yellow floral shirt as she held two boxes seemingly filled with film camera refills.

The final shot captures Adira wearing a pink dress as she stood on top of a small white slide.

The description of Adira’s new Instagram account reads “Gummy Bear,” along with three emojis: a person running, a red heart, and a man behind a computer. As of now, the account is following four people: parents Serena and Alexis, aunt Venus Williams and sister Olympia.

The first post on Olympia’s Instagram account was made on Sept. 13, 2017 — less than two weeks after she was born on Sep. 1. “Thinking about mommy and daddy 🏃🏿‍♀️👨🏻‍💻,” the caption read.

Since then, Olympia’s account has been regularly updated. A post from August 2024 shows Olympia and Adira holding hands during a trip to Paris. In the photo, the elder sister wore a matching hot pink set, while her baby sibling sported dark blue jeans and a light purple shirt as she was pushed in a hot pink stroller.

“Sisters in Paris,” the post was captioned.

Last month, Serena opened up about giving birth to Adira, sharing that she made the decision to have a C-section.

“Looking back, I’ll never have that moment again. For whatever weird reason, that kind of makes me a little sad, but that’s probably a party of one,” she said of giving birth naturally to Olympia.

“This time I went in with a plan,” Serena continued. “I like to say I put my best effort out there, and this was no different. I literally thought about it as a Grand Slam: ‘How can I succeed?’ “

Tiger Woods has announced the death of his mother, Kultida Woods, at the age of 78.

Just last week, Kultida accompanied her son to participate in the TGL tournament held in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The proud mother always defined herself as Tiger’s “biggest fan”.“My mother was a force of nature in her own right, her spirit was simply undeniable,” Woods’ heartfelt message reads

She was quick with the needle and laughed. She was my biggest fan, my biggest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible

“She was loved by many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. Thank you all for your support, prayers and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. I love you, mom,” he added

Tiger Woods’ mother’s influence on his golf career

Tiger Woods announces death of his mom Kultida: 'My biggest fan' | FOX 5 Atlanta

While Earl Woods was considered to be the forger of Tiger’s talent during his childhood and to strengthen his competitive spirit that allowed him to become one of the best golfers in history, Tiger actually pointed to his mother as “the enforcer” of this work throughout his career.

Tiger has said on several occasions that he used to dress in red on Sundays under the influence of his mother, who told him that it was his “power color”, as a tradition inherited from her native Thailand, a country where people choose the colors they will wear throughout the week and the color for Sunday is red.

“It all started with mom,” Woods said during the presentation of his Sun Day Red clothing line in February last year: “Mom thought that being a Capricorn, my power color was red, so I wore red when I was a junior golfer and won some tournaments.”

I go to a university that is red, Stanford is red. We wore red on the last day of each of the tournaments, and then in all the tournaments I’ve played as a professional I’ve worn red. It has become synonymous with me

Kultida Woods was born in Thailand and worked in the US Army office in Bangkok in the 1960s when she met Earl Woods, a US Army Special Forces soldier. She moved with him to the United States in 1968. They married in New York and moved to Cypress, California, where Tiger was born in 1975.

Kultida and Earl Woods were married for 37 years until he died of cancer in May 2006 at the age of 74.

However, throughout his career, Tiger has always appreciated his mother’s influence in his life. Last year, when he received the Bob Jones Award, the highest honor given by the United States Golf Association, Tiger thanked his mother for being a force of stability in their home.

I accept it with humility and incredible respect for the previous winners, but I also accept it for my mom. She has allowed me to get here. She allowed me to do these things, to pursue my dreams and the support and love; I didn’t do this alone. I had the greatest support any kid could have: my mom. Thank you, mom

Tiger Woods

Kultida Woods was very close to the 18th green at Augusta National Golf Club with her grandchildren, Sam and Charlie, when Tiger won the last major championship of his career, the 2019 Masters

“My mom doesn’t get enough credit,” Woods said in 2024. “Everyone thought it was my dad when I went on tour, which it was, but mom was at home. Mom has been there all my life. She’s always been there through thick and thin.

Tiger Woods shared heartbreaking news on social media, announcing the passing of his beloved mother, Kultida Woods, at the age of 78.

The legendary golfer released a heartfelt statement on behalf of his family, including his children, Sam and Charlie whom he shares with his ex-wife Elin Nordegren.

“It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning,” Woods wrote. “My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable.”

He went on to express the deep impact she had on his life, acknowledging her unwavering support throughout his career.

“She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible.”

In his statement, Woods also emphasized how much his mother adored her grandchildren, Sam and Charlie.

“She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren. Thank you all for your support, prayers, and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family,” he noted.

Accompanying his tribute, Tiger shared a cherished photograph of Kultida, reflecting on the profound bond they shared. As the only child of Earl and Kultida Woods, Tiger often spoke of his mother’s influence in shaping his career, her strength, and her unwavering dedication to his success.

Though she preferred to stay out of the limelight, Kultida was frequently seen supporting Tiger at major golf events.

Kultida Woods played an essential role in her son’s journey, helping guide his development both as a golfer and a person.

When he received the prestigious Bob Jones Award in 2024, the highest honor in American golf, Tiger took the moment to express his deep gratitude for his mother, who was present at the event alongside his children.

“My mom doesn’t get enough credit,” he said in his speech. “Everyone thought that it was my dad who took me on the road, and he did. But Mom was at home. If you don’t know, Mom has been there my entire life.

“Now imagine if I had lost the damn thing, right?” he joked, before reflecting on the emotional moment. “When I made that winning putt, who was the first person I hugged? Right, Mommy? It was you.

“I didn’t do this alone. I had the greatest rock that any child could possibly have: my mom. Thank you, Mommy.”

Abel Mendoza is just eight wins away from tying Floyd Mayweather’s unblemished 50-0 record.

Mendoza has flown under the radar during his nine-year stretch in the paid ranks but has compiled an impressive 42-0 record.

The undefeated lightweight has mostly beaten journeymen on club shows, although there are a few prospects mixed amongst his résumé.

In his last outing in December, he made short work of Yonnaiquer Rondon (22-4-1) and prior to that, he outclassed German Ivan Meraz (65-72-3) in June.

Terence Crawford is the current world champion with the longest unbeaten streak at 41-0 but as he nears his 38th birthday it seems highly unlikely he will make it to 50 fights.

Mendoza, meanwhile, has time on his hands at 29 years old though he will have to step up his level of opposition if he wants to get anywhere near Mayweather and Crawford’s achievements.

At 42-0, Mayweather had already won world titles in five different weight classes while Mendoza isn’t even ranked by any of the four major sanctioning bodies at 135lbs.

He could easily surpass Mayweather’s legendary 50-0 record without facing a world-level foe but he wouldn’t gain much respect from the boxing fraternity.

“My Goal was never to beat Floyd’s record. It is to become a world champion,” Mendoza told World Boxing News.

“If I have got to be 100-0 to do that, then so be it.”

Mendoza’s BoxRec made the rounds on social media over the weekend and caught the attention of Mayweather’s protege Curmel Moton, who moved to 7-0 on Saturday night with a destructive third-round stoppage of Cuba’s Frank Zaldivar.

Moton commented three trash can emojis on a screenshot of Mendoza’s record.

The response prompted fans to call for a fight between the pair.

To which, Moton remarked: “I’d do him so bad!”

Moton isn’t the first fighter to take a swipe at Mendoza’s record.

Fellow unbeaten lightweight J’hon Ingram (6-0) also recently labelled Mendoza a ‘bum’ on social media.

Responding to the slack he has caught from other boxers, Mendoza added: “People criticize for anything, but when I prove them wrong, they’ll find something else to criticize me for.”

“I’ve been called out so many times by so many different fighters, but I need to fight someone who is a top-rated contender, not someone who has never even fought eight rounds.

“Hopefully, my team has a good strategy to negotiate those fights.”

Following two back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, two-time heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury retired from the sport of boxing.

Fury made the announcement in January.

“Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing, it has been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it and I’m going to end with this; Dick Turpin wore a mask.”

Though Fury has made similar announcements in the past, those around him seem to believe this time it may be for good. That is despite him stating as recently as October 2024 that he will fight ‘until 50’ to make as much money as possible.

“My goal is to make as much money as possible and to do that I’ve got to have as many fights as I can. Until the wheels fall off this bitch. Until I’m 50-years-old. Until I’m tripled over on a stick walking down the street like that. That’s how I’ll be. Do you know why? That’s how all the greats fighters went out. All of them.”

‘The Gypsy King’, 36, has also been open about needing to box in order to keep his mental health in check – the reason he has ended his previous retirements early.

Despite that, Fury’s longtime promoter Frank Warren told DAZN that his former charge is in ‘a good place’ after hanging up the gloves.

“At the moment, it’s false [that he will fight again]. I say that genuinely. Tyson is a very unique guy and this is how it is. I’ve spoken to him a couple of times. I’ve not bothered him and I’ve certainly not spoke to him about fighting again. If he does, that will be his choice.

He’s a very, very wealthy guy. He doesn’t need financially to fight. If he does fight it will be because he’s got a fighting heart … For me, thats gonna be the thing. Can he walk away from the sport? He says he has and, at this moment in time, he’s said to me he’s really in a good place and he’s very happy. That for me is very important.”

Should Fury return, the general consensus is that it will be for a battle of Britain against Anthony Joshua.

Floyd Mayweather Jr defeated all 50 of the opponents he faced during his incredible career, including Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya.

The 47-year-old from Grand Rapids, Michigan entered the professional ranks back in 1996, shortly after capturing an Olympic Bronze Medal at the 1996 games in Atlanta. ‘Money’ would go on to win world titles in five weight classes without suffering a single blemish to his perfect record.

He fought and defeated a number of generational greats including Miguel Cotto, Canelo Alvarez and Shane Mosley, as well as ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao and De La Hoya before his retirement from the sport.

On his fight against De La Hoya in 2007, where he won the WBC light middleweight title by a close split decision, Mayweather claimed it was ‘easy work’ and he was simply having fun against the boxing legend.

“I was having fun in there. It was a hell of a fight. It was easy work for me. I could see his shots coming. I stayed on the outside and made him miss.”

With regards to Pacquiao, Mayweather told the Million Dollaz Worth Of Game Podcast, that the eight division world champion was the greatest fighter he faced throughout his 21-year tenure.

“Pacquiao [is the best I’ve faced]. It’s because of his movement. He’s a hell of a fighter, and I can see why he won so many fights, and I can see why he’s going down as a Hall of Famer. It’s just certain moves he makes.”

Despite their showdown coming a few years too late, Mayweather and ‘Pac-Man’ clashed in 2015 in what was described as the ‘Fight Of The Century’ in one of the most highly anticipated contests of all time. Unfortunately, the fight did not live up to its hype as ‘Money’ comprehensively outboxed Pacquiao over 12-rounds to retain his WBC and WBA welterweight titles, capturing the WBO title in the process.

The 47-year-old would go on to lace the gloves up on two more occasions after defeating Pacquiao, going the distance with Andre Berto in September 2015 which was followed up with a 10th-round stoppage victory over MMA legend Conor McGregor in August 2017.

Mayweather has not fought as a professional since defeating McGregor, but has had a number of exhibition contests against the likes of Tenshin Nasukawa, Logan Paul and Aaron Chalmers.

Jake Paul sure knows how to promote himself. The boxing superstar has been teasing who his next opponent is in the ring and had many believing it was going to be his brother Logan Paul.

The Paul brothers shared what appeared to be a fight posted for the pair, but it ended up being a publicity stunt for their new reality TV series. Jake and Logan also had a run-in with Conor McGregor on the way to the Donald Trump inauguration, which added more fuel to the fire of one or both fighting the Irish UFC star. Still, no fight has been announced. That was until a rumor blew up the internet on Monday.

Boxing journalist julianisjulius revealed in a post on X that Jake and Canelo Alvarez verbally agreed to a fight with one another on Cinco de Mayo in 2025. The X post reads via translation, “There is already an agreement for Jake Paul to be Canelo Álvarez’s rival in May of this year, a source very close to the operation informs me. The event will be co-promoted by CaneloPromotions & MVP & PBC.”

Though there could be some truth to this, Jake has shared a date on his own X page that contradicts the above post. Jake’s post reads: It’s time Sat July 5th New York, New York The post could mean many things, and if Jake’s publicity stunt with Logan can be used as an example — the boxer could be pointing to any major activity happening on July 5. However, he could also be teasing his next fight for that date in New York. If Jake is truly teasing his next boxing match, the July 5 date would contradict the report that he is set to fight Alvarez in May. Though the months are close, that is still a major discrepancy.

For now, it appears the world will have to wait to see how Jake might fight next. Though it could be his brother Logan at some point, that will not be the case. The world assumed that McGregor would happen, but his random announcement of fighting Logan, along with the bus run in says otherwise.

What is most interesting about the rumors of an Alvarez and Jake fight is the world-renowned boxer complimented Jake recently. When being interviewed by Sports Illustrated, Alvarez admitted that Jake is “good for boxing” and that he is “good.”

Alvarez alluded to the hard training that Jake engages in. Whether or not that is enough for the pair to share the ring remains to be seen. What would make Alvarez consider fighting Jake is money. Jake has proven to be a global superstar, and his fight with Mike Tyson broke multiple records. Alvarez vs Paul would be an incredibly lucrative fight and could be true — at least according to the rumor presented on X.

Speculation has been growing in the last few days that Anthony Joshua and Martin Bakole are set to fight in Africa.

Joshua hasn’t fought since he was stopped inside five rounds by IBF world champion Daniel Dubois back in September. He had hoped to fight Tyson Fury this year but Fury announced his retirement at the start of 2025.

Bakole is an often avoided heavyweight who has stopped Carlos Takam and, even more impressively, the much-hyped American Jared Anderson in his last two fights.

He is now in camp for an IBF eliminator against Efe Ajagba with his promoter, Ben Shalom, saying a deal to face Joshua was ‘done’ for the Congo later in the year.

“The promoter of Martin Bakole, that’s what I want to be known as. The number one heavyweight in the world. It’s done. I’m hearing he’s signed and we’re off to the Congo.”

However, speaking to BoxNation, journalist Gareth A Davis revealed that Joshua’s camp hadn’t even had a conversation about the potential match-up.

“With them saying that I had to check that out with certain people who shall remain nameless off the record but I’m hearing from Anthony Joshua’s side there hasn’t even been a conversation. Maybe this is Bakole and his team trying to speak the fight into reality given that Joshua hasn’t got a fight yet and Tyson Fury has retired and that was his obvious fight this summer.

It would be a major spectacle in Africa, in Congo, in that Stadium that Ali and Foreman fought in. It’s a great event if they can do it there 51 years after the Rumble in the Jungle, but I’m sorry I’m hearing there hasn’t even been a conversation about it.”

For now, it seems that this one is a long way off.

Rory McIlroy has conceded he may have been tempted as a young golfer to sign up for LIV Golf if the Saudi-backed tour was in place back in 2007.

The Northern Irishman recorded his 27th win on the PGA Tour at the weekend, moving him ahead of Henry Picard to 22nd on the all-time list.

At 35 years of age, McIlroy remains one of the biggest talents in all of golf and is likely to add plenty more titles to his CV.

His chances in recent years have been helped even further by the exodus of top talents on the PGA Tour to LIV Golf.

Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka have all jumped ship to receive huge sums of money from LIV.

But the breakaway league has not only been targeting established elite pros as they’ve also been snapping up some of the game’s best young talents.

Tom McKibbin, dubbed the ‘next McIlroy’, has turned his back on the traditional route to the PGA by signing up for LIV.

McIlroy has admitted he too would have struggled to turn down the financial rewards of joining LIV as a young golfer.

However, the four-time major champion still believes the legacy and history of the PGA Tour trumps everything else.

“I’m so glad that LIV wasn’t around when I was that age,” McIlroy said.

“Because to me, all I want to do was get into the top 50 in the world, play the majors, like, try to become one of the best players in the world.

“I didn’t care how much money I had at that point, and I was just getting starts on the PGA Tour and the European tour, and that was enough for me.”

LIV Golf events have still not been granted world ranking points, meaning players must meet the criteria elsewhere to qualify for the majors.

The bigger names such as Rahm, DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson and Koepka have certain exemptions due to their previous successes at majors.

Reaching the top 50 in the world rankings is the main way non-major winners can qualify for major championships.

McKibbin will now face a more difficult task in doing that, meaning he will have to play in a number of DP World Tour events to jump up the rankings.

McIlroy admitted he tried to push his prodigy in a different direction due to what the 22-year-old would be giving up by snubbing the PGA Tour.

“I think he’s got a ton of potential,” McIlroy said.

“I said to him, if I were in your shoes, I would make a different choice than the one you’re thinking of making.

“Working so hard to get your tour card in the States, something that he did, to achieve that goal last year was a big achievement.

“I think what he potentially is sacrificing and giving up with access to majors, potential Ryder Cup spot, if I were in his position and I had his potential, which I think I have been before, I wouldn’t make that decision.”
