In front of golf legend Tiger Woods: SWFL man hits hole-in-one in front of Tiger Woods

It’s a story too good to not believe: shooting a hole-in-one in front of golf legend Tiger Woods and Southwest Florida’s own Jake Sherwin did just that.

“It’s one of those things that you dream about happening and sure enough, it did,” Sherwin said.

Sherwin told me it still doesn’t feel real.

Fortunately, he’s got the pictures to prove it did.

Tiger followed Sherwin’s group in round three of the Florida State Golf Association Amateur Championship because his son Charlie was a part of it.

“I introduced myself on hole number two and I walked up to him, very nervous, and I said, ‘You’re Charlie’s dad, right?’ And he smiled and we laughed a little bit.”

Two holes later, the unthinkable happened.

“I put a good swing on it and we saw it in the air and it was tracking on a good line. Sure enough, it took one bounce, landed a little bit past the hole and spun back in the hole. The crowd up near the green, they raised their hands in excitement and a half second later, everyone around me, they were going crazy. I threw my hat down on the ground and I turned to Tiger and I was, like, ‘I did it in front of Tiger too.’”

Tiger could not believe it either.

“He was just as excited as everyone else. I heard that he thought it was a pretty cool experience for himself, too.”

The moment was the cherry on top of an already highlight reel tournament for Sherwin.

“I had a once-in-a-lifetime shot in the second round to get an albatross, which is like a one-in-a-million shot and that pushed me into getting into the same group with Charlie.”

Sherwin tied for 35th in the tournament.

Between his first career albatross and hitting a hole-in-one in front of one of the greatest to ever play, it’s an event he’ll never forget.

Even more impressive, the shot came in only Jake’s fifth round of golf this year. With two kids under two at home, he doesn’t have much time to hit the links — but when he does, he makes a statement.
