Mike Tyson is being sued for allegedly breaching a commercial deal to fight Jake Paul.
Tyson fought Jake Paul last month at the AT&T Stadium in Texas in front of 70,000 fans, but lost by points in what was a disappointing affair.
The heavyweight blockbuster was broadcast live on Netflix as many fans were left disappointed considering 58-year-old Tyson landed just 18 punches the entire bout.
Medier is a Cyprus-registered company that promotes Rabona Sportsbook & Online Casino, and according to ESPN, they are suing the former heavyweight champion and his company Tyrannic for nearly $1.59 million (£1.25 million).
They have accused Tyson of allegedly breaking a deal to promote a gambling company in order to fight the YouTuber-turned-professional boxer Paul.
Tyson and his company Tyrannic are yet to file a defence to the lawsuit, with Tyson also yet to comment.
But Medier’s lawyers has commented on the matter in public documents that were made available on Friday.
“The true reason for Mr. Tyson and Tyrannic’s hasty and unlawful termination was because Mr. Tyson had agreed a deal, sponsored by Netflix, to fight the influencer Jake Paul,” the company’s lawyer said.
Some of boxing’s biggest names were quick to react to Paul vs Tyson, which headlined a card that also featured Katie Taylor’s rematch with Amanda Serrano.
Taylor retained her undisputed light-welterweight titles in what was another ten-round war as all three judges awarded her the 95-94 decision.
Tyson threw a mere 97 blows in his fight with Paul, but landed just 18% of his attempted strikes.
This prompted four-division world champion Terence Crawford to call the heavyweight boxing icon “trash.”
“I love Mike Tyson, but they [the Netflix commentators] giving him too much credit, he said on X.
“He looked like trash, To train that long and only throw 97 punches the whole fight is crazy.”
