World champion who “I’m Leaning Towards Him” Amir Khan Predicts Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder

Anthony Joshua versus Deontay Wilder is a heavyweight showdown many would like to see, including Amir Khan.

Both of these men are now in the later stages of their careers. Joshua is a former two-time world champion who had plenty of huge nights on his way to becoming a three-belt unified ruler. He beat the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Kubrat Pulev, Dillian Whyte, and although he lost to Andy Ruiz Jr, he avenged the loss six months later

It was soon to be undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk who dethroned him and then beat him again in a rematch across 2021 and 2022, and when Joshua tried to win the IBF belt back against Daniel Dubois last September, he was stopped inside five.

Anthony Joshua, Wilder, meanwhile has lost four of his last five fights – two against Tyson Fury, and one each against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, the latter by stoppage.

Before that, he was a long-time WBC champion with an impressive number of knockouts, and he returns to the ring in June against Tyrrell Herndon in Kansas as he makes one more attempt at getting back to the top level.

In a round of winner stays on with Mail Sport Boxing, Khan was asked to pick between the Brit and the American and sided with his countryman.

“Leaning more towards Joshua, so I think Joshua on that one.”

Right now, a fight between these two seems a way off. It had been hoped that Joshua and Fury would be sharing the ring however ‘The Gypsy King’ retired after his two losses to Usyk, and Joshua is now about to undergo elbow surgery so will be out until later in the year.

“It’s a serious investment” – British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua eyes Watford takeover

British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua is weighing up a potential investment in EFL Championship side Watford FC — the club from his hometown, Soccernet.ng reports.

The former unified heavyweight champion, who was born and raised in Watford and still lives in the area, is reportedly exploring an opportunity to take a financial stake in the club.

At 35, Joshua has already carved out a highly successful boxing career — Olympic gold in 2012 and multiple world titles in the professional ranks — earning an estimated $110 million in the process.

Speaking to Seconds Out, Joshua explained his motivation to invest strategically rather than spend frivolously — and revealed that Watford FC has emerged as a serious option.

“We wanted to move into private equity, venture capital funds,” Joshua told Seconds Out, via TalkSport.

“As you earn, naturally you want to save, so rather than me spending recklessly I’m trying to invest money into certain asset classes — and that [Watford] was an opportunity that presented itself.”

He added: “Nothing’s come of it yet. It’s a serious investment. If it comes off, it’s one that should do well.

“If they went back to the Premier League, then I’d need to get a shop on Market Street because the traffic that would be coming through Watford would be phenomenal.

“I’m not a massive football fan myself, but watching the fans stream down Market Street and into Vicarage Road — those were great scenes. If we don’t do it, then good luck to them anyway because they’re a great team.”

Watford finished 14th in the 2024/25 Championship campaign, securing safety but falling short of a promotion challenge. The Hornets, who were relegated from the Premier League in 2022, have since been striving to reclaim top-flight status.

The club has had several Nigerian stars in recent years, including Odion Ighalo, William Troost-Ekong and Emmanuel Dennis — a connection that could make Joshua’s involvement even more meaningful for fans.

“His Time Is Done”: British Heavyweight Vows To Beat Anthony Joshua Worse Than Dubois Did

One British heavyweight has claimed that Anthony Joshua‘s career is almost over and that he will beat him in more impressive fashion than Daniel Dubois.

Dubois stopped Joshua inside five rounds back in September 2024. It was the most impressive night of the young IBF champion’s career after two previous knockout wins over Filip Hrgovic and Jarrell Miller, and it marked one of the worst nights in the ring for Joshua

He was also put down hard in the first round and never looked like becoming a three-time world champion. It was the fourth loss of his career following an upset stoppage loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in June 2019, which he avenged with a wide points win in December that year, and two points losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022.

Joshua is out recovering from injury, but insists he will be back for one final run in the ring, but a British heavyweight rival has lashed out at ‘AJ.’

That is Hughie Fury, who believes he’s put himself in the frame for a fight with Joshua. Fury has had 33 fights, won 30 and lost 3 to Joseph Parker, Alexandr Pvetkin and Kubrat Pulev. Last time out in early April, he beat Dan Garber by fifth round KO.

Speaking to Morson Sport, Fury had praise for Joshua but replied ‘100%’ when asked if he could beat him more emphatically than Dubois did.

“Yeah 100% [I’ll beat him worse than Dubois].

Anthony Joshua Daniel Dubois

These are the fights that I want. Joshua’s had a great career. You can’t really knock the fella, he’s been at the elite level. He’s done great things in boxing, but I believe his time is done. He’s got limited fights left and hopefully I’ll be one of them.”

‘AJ’ is more likely looking for a much bigger fight with Hughie’s cousin Tyson, though the former world champion remains retired for now.

Latest : “Skeptical Last Fights” Mike Tyson Perfectly Sums Up Joshua vs. Fury After

A long-anticipated clash between former WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and former unified champion Anthony Joshua has remained just out of reach for years. Although negotiations have come close on several occasions, the fight has yet to materialize. Now, adding fuel to the ongoing conversation, Fury’s namesake, the legendary Mike Tyson, has weighed in with his thoughts on the matchup.

‘The Gypsy King’ is coming off back-to-back losses to unified champion Oleksandr Usyk. Following the defeats, Fury announced his retirement from boxing. While he’s made similar announcements in the past, only to return for major bouts, this time seems permanent. Still, many believe that the lure of a massive payday, particularly in a long-awaited clash with Joshua, could be enough to tempt Fury back into the ring.

Meanwhile, Top Rank boss Bob Arum had claimed that Fury has become well off from his previous earnings to put in the effort into training. “If I [were] a betting man, I would say he will never fight again,” Arum told BBC 5 Live Boxing with Steve Bunce podcast. Arum even quoted the legendary Marvin Hagler, noting, “a rich guy who goes to bed wearing silk pyjamas doesn’t get up in the morning to do road work.”

Despite Arum’s take on the matter, Mike Tyson, who fought at the age of 58 last year, believes Fury and Joshua should lace up the gloves even if it were for a last fight. “I think that’s beautiful for both of them,” Tyson told iFL TV during the Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando Romero event in Times Square in New York. “They both go home and take care of the fans and a great payday [as well].”

He also thought that the fight would be fair for both boxers since they are coming off losses. “I think they both had skeptical last fights, but still [it would] be a fight that the crowd would like to watch,” Tyson told the reporter. Interestingly, Joshua suffered one of the brutal knockout losses to IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in September last year.

While it’s unclear whether the all-British clash would ever happen, Anthony Joshua seems to have a plan regardless.

Anthony Joshua unravels three fight hit-list: Does it include Tyson Fury?

Anthony Joshua has unveiled a potential three-fight hit-list as he eyes a return to the heavyweight spotlight—and yes, Tyson Fury still tops it. Despite Fury insisting he’s retired, Joshua remains hopeful, saying, “Hopefully [the Fury fight] happens. The industry should not be left without it.”

That was when the former two-time world heavyweight champion suffered a devastating loss at the hands of IBF champion Daniel Dubois.

He was put down in the first round and then stopped in the fifth, ending a good run before then that included wins over Robert Helenius, Francis Ngannou and Otto Wallin.

Since then, ‘AJ’ has been recovering from minor injuries and recently revealed he is due to have elbow surgery this month, which will keep him out until later in the year.

Joshua is 35-years-old and has had 32 bouts, including tough nights against the likes of Andy Ruiz Jr, and two tight 12-round battles with Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022, so he likely only has a few fights left.

Speaking to BoxNation, he was asked who is on his current hit list.

“Potential fight with Fury, hopefully that happens. I think the industry should not be left without it. Those interested should be able to witness it. I think a potential flight with [Martin] Bakole, [Agit] Kabayel. Who else is there, [Deontay] Wilder?”

Any of those would excite fans, though Wilder only returns for the first time in a year in June after a string of losses, and Fury is currently retired. ‘AJ’ was then asked about a fight with the winner of the undisputed showdown in July between Usyk and Dubois.

“Do you want me to be completely honest with you, Parker deserves it more than me right now?”

Parker, who Joshua beat in 2018, is mandatory for Usyk’s WBO belt so will likely get an immediate shot at the winner.

British superstar Anthony Joshua To Have Elbow Surgery, Won’t Return To Gym For 6-8 Weeks

Anthony Joshua’s return to the ring has been delayed by another couple of months after the British superstar revealed he will have surgery on his elbow later this month.
“AJ” hasn’t been in action since a devastating fifth-round knockout defeat to IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in September
Originally, there were plans for Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs), 35, to return this spring, but after his promoter Eddie Hearn revealed an “upper body” injury, his next fight was pushed back to late summer.
Joshua, however, who is in Saudi Arabia to watch Canelo Alvarez’s undisputed super-middleweight clash with William Scull, has revealed that he will have to have a minor operation on his elbow in the coming weeks, adding that the recovery time could be close to two months.
“When do you want me back, people? I’m trying to get my body right,” he said to Claudia Trejos on the DAZN broadcast.
“I’ve got to actually have a little surgery on my elbow, a small surgery, some time in May. We’re just finalising the details.

“I’ll be out of the gym for maybe six to eight weeks and then when I’m healed I’ll be back.”
Providing Joshua doesn’t return to the gym until the beginning of July, and working on the assumption he doesn’t start training camp straight away, it’s likely the former two-time heavyweight champion won’t be back in action until October at the earliest.
Tyson Fury, who hinted he would be making a comeback earlier this week following his January retirement, has been mooted as a potential opponent for Joshua once both men are in fighting shape.
The pair, who are two of Britain’s biggest sport stars, have been on a collision course to do battle for at least eight years now, but there have been various stumbling blocks at the negotiating table each time an attempt has been made to make the fight.
Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua
And it now looks like the wait to see what would be the biggest British clash of its generation will go on, likely until the end of 2025 or the first quarter of 2026.
A rematch with Dubois also was an option for Joshua at one point, but “Dynamite” is scheduled to rematch Oleksandr Usyk for all the belts on July 19 at Wembley Stadium, where he stopped Joshua more than seven months ago.

Anthony Joshua was largely out-gunned by Daniel Dubois last September at Wembley Stadium, but managed to almost turn the tide towards the end.

Dubois, who had been elevated to IBF Champion, entered the ring an underdog. Despite that, he hurt ‘AJ’ significantly in the first round with a shot that would shape the entire contest.

Joshua showed incredible heart to stick around, being dropped a total of four times before the eventual fifth round ending. Before the final shot put him down and rendered him unable to make the referee’s count, he had his best success of the fight.

Speaking to the Ring Magazine, Dubois said the shot in question was like ‘a bomb going off.’

“Honestly, it was a quick thing. It was in the moment. I just composed myself. It was a hell of a shot. I’ve watched it back and I’ve heard the sound. It’s like a bomb going off. But yeah [I’ve got a good chin], I just composed myself, studied what I was doing and took the chance, took victory.”

There may be a rematch down the line, it is certainly a fight Joshua wants, however Dubois first defends his belt against Joseph Parker on February 22. Should he retain it, he will look to face unified champion Oleksandr Usyk to become undisputed.

Meanwhile, Joshua is in the market for an opponent after Tyson Fury announced his retirement and put paid to talks of a long-awaited clash.

Carl Froch reckons Tyson Fury would be interested in a £100million fight against British rival Anthony Joshua.

Fury announced his retirement from boxing in January just weeks after losing to Oleksandr Usyk for a second time. The 36-year-old previously declared his retirement before offering up a U-turn. However, this latest announcement follows Usyk’s victory over the ex-unified heavyweight champion in their highly anticipated rematch in December.

The Manchester-born fighter was defeated by unanimous decision months after failing to secure victory in their match for the undisputed championship of the heavyweight division in May. Fury’s announcement seemed to extinguish any possibility of a bout with Joshua, which could have – arguably – been the most significant event in British boxing history.

But former super-middleweight champion and current boxing pundit Froch says ‘The Gypsy King’ might not stay retired for long if a potential big-money fight against Joshua comes about.

“I’m not sure [if he will stay retired] because he’s quite stubborn and when he digs his heels in, and similar to me, he’ll double down on it,” he said via Action Network.

Froch went on: “It’s like a lot of boxers. He has retired because deep down he knows he is probably past his best and lost two fights (to Oleksandr Usyk) and I know personally he is p*****. I spoke to somebody close to his team and he’s really frustrated and p***** off that he lost the rematch, but he did lose and lost fair and square.

“It was a close fight, but wasn’t very entertaining, not like the first one where there were moments of excitement, and not a lot happened. I think Usyk did enough to win.

“He shouldn’t have any complaints apart from the frustration that he didn’t go for it.

“I just think Tyson Fury had a bit more left in the tank and could’ve tried a little harder. He’s the bigger man and is heavier. Maybe Fury is feeling a little let down by himself, and it might bring him out of retirement one last time and the fight with Anthony Joshua is a big fight as much as I think that’s not as big of a fight as it could have been, and isn’t as exciting without a title.

“Anthony Joshua has been done a few times now and he’s past his best. Tyson Fury is 36, he’s overweight and he struggles to get fit, so there’s nothing at stake apart from a bragging rights fight. It’s too late now. I’m not excited, but I appreciate it’s a big fight for Britain and if he gets offered £100million then he will take the fight.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn has been accused of protecting his man Anthony Joshua from one dangerous fight.

It’s fair to say that Joshua is now nearing the end of his career. The Brit is in his mid 30s and has had plenty of hard bouts and great success along the way.

‘AJ’ became world champion for the first time in 2016 when he knocked out Charles Martin inside two rounds, then unifying with wins over Joseph Parker and Wladimir Klitschko. The first setback came with an upset loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in June 2019, but was corrected with a rematch victory in December of the same year.

Joshua was again derailed in 2021 and 2022 when he lost back-to-back fights with Ukrainian slickster Oleksandr Usyk. Following four wins to get himself back in title contention, he was then stopped by Daniel Dubois inside five rounds in September in a failed attempt to become three-time world champion.

It recently emerged that Joshua was rumoured to be in talks with Martin Bakole about a huge fight in Africa. However, in a new post on X, Bakole’s trainer Billy Nelson accuses Hearn – who has guided the ‘AJ’s career since he turned over from the Olympics – of making up excuses so it doesn’t happen.

“I was bombarded with is Martin v AJ happening in Africa in October last night. My reply was: His excellency wants it, Martin wants it, AJ says he wants it, but big Eddie seems to be sh***ing his pants making up every excuse to avoid it. Big Ed knows”

Hearn and Joshua have always prided themselves on taking on all comers and, of the top heavyweights, his record does stand up well to that fact.

Though Joshua has often spoken about his interest in fighting in Africa, a contest with the in-form Bakole who knocked out hot American prospect Jarod Anderson in his last fight would be dangerous indeed.

He may instead wait for another chance to fight for a world title, while Bakole will take on Efe Ajagbe in an IBF eliminator next time out, a win guaranteeing him a shot at champion Dubois.

There was a party in Manchester on Saturday night to celebrate the last fight on British soil of Derek ‘Del Boy’ Chisora and over 12,000 fans serenaded the old warrior.

An hour or two earlier, in a corridor at the new Co-op Live Arena, Chisora had broken down in tears when he realised that over fifty pictures of his 48 fights had been framed. He was overwhelmed walking down his own personal hall of fame.

He was facing Otto Wallin, who had caused Tyson Fury all sorts of problems back in 2019, in what was the Briton’s 49th fight and the towering Swedish boxer played his role as the villain perfectly; he predicted a shock, a bad end to the Chisora fantasy and a knockout defeat, but in the ring, he came without a plan and even less desire.

The crowd roared ‘Del Boy’ on from the moment he appeared on the stage, his face obscured by a Union flag bandana and his intentions clear as he howled his way to the ring.

It was, at that point, pure pantomime. Chisora is now a national treasure, which is one of the oddest twists in sport; the same Chisora has been banned, fined, ignored, knocked out, brutally exposed, but now, in his 19th year as a pro and his 49th fight, he is suddenly adored.

Chisora did manage to turn back the clock, fighting with a steady urgency behind his calculating assaults; he was smarter than normal, sharper and simply battered Wallin from corner to corner.

Suddenly, part one of his retirement tour started to look a bit premature; a few days before the first bell, the fight had been upgraded from a goodbye party to a final eliminator for the IBF heavyweight title. Seldom has Chisora looked so focused, it was a delight to watch.

Derek Chisora speaks to the crowd after winning the IBF world heavyweight title eliminator bout against Otto Wallin

‘Del Boy’, to use his nickname (he once owned and drove one of the original three-wheelers from the television series Only Fools and Horses), was cut in the fifth and it was a large and ugly cut tucked up under his right eyebrow. It bled relentlessly and the fun fight often had exchanges with Chisora’s blood flying through the air in a dramatic plume under the neon lights. It was one-sided, but it was still gruelling. The slugfest with blood theme was exactly what the midnight fans had come for – they wanted one last stand from the man that simply refused to follow boxing’s rules.

There was a halt to the action in the sixth when the excellent referee, John Latham, called up the ringside doctor to inspect the gash. The crowd fell silent but screamed when the doctor allowed the action to continue. An exchange of wild punches in the eighth will not be forgotten in a long time and in the ninth, Wallin went down when a delayed reaction sent him stumbling backwards before he toppled over. Chisora was irresistible, blood flying all over the place, his fists pummeling Wallin and the crowd singing out his name. It was an extreme atmosphere.

The pair often stood toe-to-toe and slugged away, and Chisora won every single exchange. Wallin should have moved more, should have used his boxing brain, but instead he became victim number 36 in Chisora’s long, long career. In the final seconds of the 12th and last round, Wallin was down again, crumpled by a selection of lefts and rights. The bell sounded as the big Swede struggled up and Chisora was already celebrating. One judge made it so close that without the knockdowns, Chisora would have lost. It was the night’s only sour note.

Chisora got the decision and then, in the centre of the ring, he held up pictures of the three men he wants for his 50th and last fight; Daniel Dubois, Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua. It was his wish list and stranger things have happened in the old game. There might be a fight in Africa, there might be a fight in Riyadh, but Chisora’s promoter, Frank Warren, also introduced a final dance at Wembley Stadium. Del Boy will need a long time to let his cuts heal, his body recover and then he can start the selection process to find out who gets the chance to fight him for the title of People’s Champion. That is a belt that all boxers secretly crave and right now it belongs to Derek ‘Del Boy’ Chisora. What a business.
