Latest : “Skeptical Last Fights” Mike Tyson Perfectly Sums Up Joshua vs. Fury After

A long-anticipated clash between former WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and former unified champion Anthony Joshua has remained just out of reach for years. Although negotiations have come close on several occasions, the fight has yet to materialize. Now, adding fuel to the ongoing conversation, Fury’s namesake, the legendary Mike Tyson, has weighed in with his thoughts on the matchup.

‘The Gypsy King’ is coming off back-to-back losses to unified champion Oleksandr Usyk. Following the defeats, Fury announced his retirement from boxing. While he’s made similar announcements in the past, only to return for major bouts, this time seems permanent. Still, many believe that the lure of a massive payday, particularly in a long-awaited clash with Joshua, could be enough to tempt Fury back into the ring.

Meanwhile, Top Rank boss Bob Arum had claimed that Fury has become well off from his previous earnings to put in the effort into training. “If I [were] a betting man, I would say he will never fight again,” Arum told BBC 5 Live Boxing with Steve Bunce podcast. Arum even quoted the legendary Marvin Hagler, noting, “a rich guy who goes to bed wearing silk pyjamas doesn’t get up in the morning to do road work.”

Despite Arum’s take on the matter, Mike Tyson, who fought at the age of 58 last year, believes Fury and Joshua should lace up the gloves even if it were for a last fight. “I think that’s beautiful for both of them,” Tyson told iFL TV during the Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando Romero event in Times Square in New York. “They both go home and take care of the fans and a great payday [as well].”

He also thought that the fight would be fair for both boxers since they are coming off losses. “I think they both had skeptical last fights, but still [it would] be a fight that the crowd would like to watch,” Tyson told the reporter. Interestingly, Joshua suffered one of the brutal knockout losses to IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in September last year.

While it’s unclear whether the all-British clash would ever happen, Anthony Joshua seems to have a plan regardless.

Anthony Joshua unravels three fight hit-list: Does it include Tyson Fury?

Anthony Joshua has unveiled a potential three-fight hit-list as he eyes a return to the heavyweight spotlight—and yes, Tyson Fury still tops it. Despite Fury insisting he’s retired, Joshua remains hopeful, saying, “Hopefully [the Fury fight] happens. The industry should not be left without it.”

Anthony Joshua Names His Dangerous 4 Man Hit List As He Prepares For Ring Return

That was when the former two-time world heavyweight champion suffered a devastating loss at the hands of IBF champion Daniel Dubois.

He was put down in the first round and then stopped in the fifth, ending a good run before then that included wins over Robert Helenius, Francis Ngannou and Otto Wallin.

Since then, ‘AJ’ has been recovering from minor injuries and recently revealed he is due to have elbow surgery this month, which will keep him out until later in the year.

Joshua is 35-years-old and has had 32 bouts, including tough nights against the likes of Andy Ruiz Jr, and two tight 12-round battles with Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022, so he likely only has a few fights left.

Speaking to BoxNation, he was asked who is on his current hit list.

“Potential fight with Fury, hopefully that happens. I think the industry should not be left without it. Those interested should be able to witness it. I think a potential flight with [Martin] Bakole, [Agit] Kabayel. Who else is there, [Deontay] Wilder?”

Any of those would excite fans, though Wilder only returns for the first time in a year in June after a string of losses, and Fury is currently retired. ‘AJ’ was then asked about a fight with the winner of the undisputed showdown in July between Usyk and Dubois.

“Do you want me to be completely honest with you, Parker deserves it more than me right now?”

Parker, who Joshua beat in 2018, is mandatory for Usyk’s WBO belt so will likely get an immediate shot at the winner.

‘I Couldn’t Believe The Scales’ – Trainer Billy Nelson ‘Disappointed’ With Martin Bakole’s Weight Issues

Martin Bakole’s trainer Billy Nelson admits he ‘couldn’t believe the scales’ when his fighter weighed in at just under 300lbs for his clash with Efe Ajagba last week in Saudi Arabia.
Bakole (21-2-1, 16 KOs) reportedly weighed in at 315lbs before his 2nd-round stoppage loss to Joseph Parker in February, but having taken the fight on 24 hours notice, the Congolese heavyweight was handed a proverbial pass.
Last August, Bakole put in the performance of his career on the undercard of Terence Crawford-Israil Madrimov when he knocked out Jared Anderson in five rounds, weighing in at 284lbs the day before.
The target weight for Bakole’s fight with Ajagba (20-1-1, 14 KOs), which ended in a majority draw on the Canelo-Scull undercard, was similar to that, but the 21-year-old hit the scales at 299lbs, something which came as a shock to Scotsman Nelson.
“I’m not giving him any excuses whatsoever, I’m in the gym with Martin, I’m not with him 24/7, I can’t determine what goes in and out of his mouth,” Nelson told Louis Hart for The Ring.
“When I left two weeks ago to go to Wales, he was 20st 6lbs, and he was going to Saudi the following day, so I assumed that, easily, he’d have hit 20 stone, which meant he’d have lost 35 pounds [since the Parker fight], which was our target.
“I couldn’t believe the scales…I never weighed him because he was looking good in the gym, he came in at 299lbs so I’m disappointed in that respect.”
Bakole made a slow start in his bout with Ajagba, and had arguably only won a round or two by the time the 7th stanza had finished. While he finished strong, it wasn’t enough to get the nod on the cards, and plenty of observers thought Ajagba did enough to walk away from Riyadh with his hand raised.

The scores read 96-94 Ajagba and 95-95 twice.
Nelson is adamant that an in-shape Bakole would have stopped Nigerian Ajagba. He also stated that Bakole’s ongoing weight issues need to be addressed, or he won’t have a future in the sport as a champion.
“Whether Martin likes it or not, we’re getting a nutritionist,” Nelson added.
“The problem with [that], what people don’t understand is Martin is a vegetarian and he’s a bit stubborn in the respect he doesn’t eat much British food, he eats African or Congolese food and he buys it in certain shops in Glasgow, so I don’t know…but a nutritionist would help, undoubtedly.
martin bakole
“He’s got to be a lot stricter, much more strict and disciplined with himself, and I’m also bringing in an American strength and conditioning coach. I think that will be very beneficial for Martin.
“He’s got to understand it, or he’ll not have a future, or the future I know he’s capable of. I was disappointed, I’ve seen him do things in the gym I’ve not seen other fighters do. To see the condition [he was in], the belly…for me that’s a substandard Martin Bakole performance, he’s so much better than that.
“A slimmer version of Martin Bakole would’ve stopped Ajagba, he’d have closed the distance down, got more shots off. People say he wasn’t fit but he won rounds 8, 9 and 10 clearly, so the fact he’s carrying that extra timber is not good at all.”

British superstar Anthony Joshua To Have Elbow Surgery, Won’t Return To Gym For 6-8 Weeks

Anthony Joshua’s return to the ring has been delayed by another couple of months after the British superstar revealed he will have surgery on his elbow later this month.
“AJ” hasn’t been in action since a devastating fifth-round knockout defeat to IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in September
Originally, there were plans for Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs), 35, to return this spring, but after his promoter Eddie Hearn revealed an “upper body” injury, his next fight was pushed back to late summer.
Joshua, however, who is in Saudi Arabia to watch Canelo Alvarez’s undisputed super-middleweight clash with William Scull, has revealed that he will have to have a minor operation on his elbow in the coming weeks, adding that the recovery time could be close to two months.
“When do you want me back, people? I’m trying to get my body right,” he said to Claudia Trejos on the DAZN broadcast.
“I’ve got to actually have a little surgery on my elbow, a small surgery, some time in May. We’re just finalising the details.

“I’ll be out of the gym for maybe six to eight weeks and then when I’m healed I’ll be back.”
Providing Joshua doesn’t return to the gym until the beginning of July, and working on the assumption he doesn’t start training camp straight away, it’s likely the former two-time heavyweight champion won’t be back in action until October at the earliest.
Tyson Fury, who hinted he would be making a comeback earlier this week following his January retirement, has been mooted as a potential opponent for Joshua once both men are in fighting shape.
The pair, who are two of Britain’s biggest sport stars, have been on a collision course to do battle for at least eight years now, but there have been various stumbling blocks at the negotiating table each time an attempt has been made to make the fight.
Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua
And it now looks like the wait to see what would be the biggest British clash of its generation will go on, likely until the end of 2025 or the first quarter of 2026.
A rematch with Dubois also was an option for Joshua at one point, but “Dynamite” is scheduled to rematch Oleksandr Usyk for all the belts on July 19 at Wembley Stadium, where he stopped Joshua more than seven months ago.

‘Clear weakness’ – Lennox Lewis and Tony Bellew disagree on Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois 2 prediction

Lennox Lewis is backing Daniel Dubois, while Tony Bellew is in Oleksandr Usyk’s corner with their rematch now confirmed.

Usyk and Dubois first met in 2023, which ended in controversy as the latter dropped his rival with a shot which was deemed an illegal low blow.

The Ukrainian went on to stop the Briton, but Dubois will get a shot at redemption in their sequel at Wembley Stadium on July 19.

Dubois has shown notable improvements since their first fight, which he showed in an impressive KO win over Anthony Joshua last September.

But Usyk is the man to beat and the favourite, having since beaten Tyson Fury twice.

And Bellew, who was stopped by Usyk in 2018, believes his former opponent will get the stoppage once again.

He said: “Usyk is the best heavyweight in the world. He’s probably the best heavyweight of our era, there is no disputing it anymore.

“He’s amazing at what he does. Dubois has been amazing. I’ve wrote him off on a number of occasions and he’s come back to prove me wrong.

“You’ve got to give him a shot and he’s in with a chance, but Usyk has already made him quit once so can he make him do it again?

Usyk is supremely confident of getting the job done in what is planned to be one of his two final fights.

‘The Cat’ is in the prime of his career and looks extremely formidable.

But Dubois too is fired up and wants to become the first man to knock out Usyk, carrying dynamite power in both hands.

And former undisputed heavyweight champion Lewis is one who is backing the 27-year-old to cause an upset this summer.

He disagreed with Bellew, predicting: “I’m thinking he’s ready. He’s been through the trials and tribulations.

“He’s the king slayer. He’s got the power. He’s been there before. He was just there, he knocked the guy down, so he knows what he needs to do.

Oleksandr Usyk

“He’s a certified world champion and I think he has big hopes on doing it. He’s going to do it.

“Obviously he’s seen a weakness in the first fight. I believe that there’s a weakness, you gotta attack it. Don’t give him no shortcuts.

Dubois will face the biggest challenge of his career, but the prize is huge.

The Briton could become just the second undisputed heavyweight champion after Usyk since Lewis picked up the crown in 1999.

Who is Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero? Meet Ryan Garcia’s long-time rival and next opponent

Ryan Garcia will make his long-awaited return to the ring to finally face Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero after years of on-again, off-again fight negotiations.

They will fight at Times Square this Friday, May 2, for the WBA welterweight world championship. Make no mistake, this is no straightforward comeback for Garcia. ‘Kingry’ has had a turbulent year – battling with his mental health and a suspension from the New York Athletic Commission

his fight represents an opportunity to get back on track in a fight against a familiar foe.

‘Rolly’ Romero brings knockout power and an unpredictable style—threats Garcia knows all too well, having previously shared the ring in a viral leaked sparring session in 2018.

But who is Romero and what experience does he bring into the fight? And why is he a threat to Garcia?

‘Rolly’ Romero’s boxing record

Romero has fought eighteen professional bouts across 84 rounds, curating sixteen wins, thirteen by knockout, and only two defeats at world title level to Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

Who has Roland Romero fought?

The Las Vegas native was a late comer to boxing, only entering a gym for the first time at 17, inspired by watching the 2012 Olympic Games and with boxing in his blood.

His father, Rolando Sr, was an amateur champion in Cuba who fled the country when he was 30 and now plays a key role in his son’s training camps, acting as an assistant coach.

With a limited amateur background of only 35 amateur fights, Romero knew he had to make noise to get noticed and when he entered the Mayweather Boxing Club.

His hard sparring style eventually caught the attention of Floyd Mayweather Jr, who signed the youngster in 2016.

Ismael Salas is currently in charge of Romero’s development after a split from Coach Bullet, aka Cromwell Gordon, at the beginning of 2024.

The Cuban coach has watched over world class fighters including Guillermo Rigondeaux, Felix Savon, and Jorge Linares.

‘Rolly’ made the perfect debut, knocking out David Courtney in the first round.

He would not taste defeat in his first fourteen fights, winning twelve of them by knockout, climbing the lightweight rankings and becoming the WBA interim champion.

Ryan Garcia vs Rolly Romero

His challenge for the WBA lightweight title was short lived when he came up against the pound-for-pound star, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, who knocked him out in the sixth round.

The American claimed the WBA (regular) super lightweight championship in 2023, controversially knocking out the experienced Ismael Barroso.

He shortly forfeited his title to ‘Pitbull’ Cruz in his first defence nearly a year later, getting knocked out in the eighth round.

After outpointing Manuel Jaimes last September, Romero has been sat on the sidelines waiting for his next big fight.

Garcia is arguably the biggest fight of Romero’s career so far, and the latter will be looking to make a big statement as the underdog on the world stage.

Ryan vs. Rolando: US boxing star Ryan Garcia’s ominous warning to rival’s dad ahead of ‘biggest fight of my life’

Revitalised Ryan Garcia has warned he is “ready to kill” when he returns to the ring with to face Rolando Romero on Friday night.

Taking place in New York’s Times Square, Garcia, Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez will contest in three separate bouts, while the following day Canelo Alvarez makes his Riyadh debut against William Scull. Both fight nights are exclusively on DAZN PPV.

With Garcia and Haney on the same card facing Romero and Jose Ramirez respectively, it is no secret that a rematch between the pair will be next if they manage to win in New York.

Garcia and Haney’s first fight was one full of bad blood and controversy with Garcia winning by majority decision.

This was then declared a no contest after Garcia tested positive for Ostarine the day before, and day of the fight.

A second fight between the two is one that fans are desperate to see, but Garcia and Haney need to hold their end of the bargain in order to make it a reality.

Speaking with Mike Coppinger about his return at a media conference on DAZN, 26-year-old Garcia said: “I’m coming back with a bang – I’m not here to play no games come Friday night.

“I can’t because I’ve got a huge fight coming up next so I’ve got to take him (Romero] as seriously as if I was fighting Devin, so I’m going to be prepared one hundred percent.

“I’m explosive and I’m hungry – I’m feeling the adrenaline now in fight week. I’m focused and ready to kill.”

Asked if he was targeting a knockout victory against Romero, Garcia replied: “Oh yeah, most definitely.

“I’m not coming for it but usually, when I throw, they go down so it’s going to be a great night.”

Garcia admitted he was already looking further ahead to the prospect of facing Haney in a rematch and warned he would take care of his rival’s father – Bill Haney – too.

Ryan Garcia vs Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero

“I cannot wait and I want to put a whooping on his dad too – that’s who I really want to put a whooping on,” added Garcia.

“But again I’m going to do the same thing just like I did last time.”

As he prepares to take on Romero in Times Square, Garcia admitted: “This has got to be the biggest fight of my career.

“It’s a historic night and it means everything, so this is the biggest fight of my life.”

Gervonta Davis is undefeated in 30 fights, but pound-for-pound superstar Terence Crawford believes he will be handed his first loss should he step in with one of two men.

‘Tank’ has scored 28 knockouts in his campaign so far, stopping the likes of Ryan Garcia, Frank Martin, Mario Barrios and Leo Santa Cruz. The southpaw from Baltimore is next out on March 1 against Lamont Roach Jr to defend his WBA Lightweight World Title.

Should he come through as expected, fans will once again call for Davis to take on a fellow champion in a unification bout. With Vasiliy Lomachenko out on the sidelines, his two options are Shakur Stevenson or Keyshawn Davis.

Speaking to FightHype, Crawford said that both men beat ‘Tank.’

“Whoever. I told Tank. Tank knows what’s up. He knows what he’s up against when he fights Shakur or Keyshawn. He wanna fight these guys that everybody in the world knows ain’t gonna give him no fight. They’re not mentally there. They might have a little skill here and there, but mentally-wise they’re not gonna be able to keep it up that whole fight. Them two guys right there [Shakur and Keyshawn] is gonna be the ones that give him his first L.”

Stevenson holds the WBC belt and will defend it later this month against Floyd Schofield. He has long called for the ‘Tank’ fight, however talks have broken down before getting anywhere.

Keyshawn Davis is the division’s newest champion, having defeated Ukrain’s Denys Berinchyk this weekend in New York to snatch the WBO strap.

The fourth round body-shot stoppage saw Keyshawn cement himself as one of the top dogs on the lightweight scene and he made quick time of calling out ‘Tank’ post-fight.

A major sticking point for either fight is that Gervonta says he will retire at the end of 2025, although he recently stated that he may just ‘take a break.’

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis has set his sights on facing a retired world champion in what he has described as a ‘dream fight’.

The 30-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland has enjoyed a successful career to date, remaining undefeated through all 30 of his contests since he made his debut back in 2013.

‘Tank’ has already won world titles across three weight classes, picking up victories against the likes of Leo Santa Cruz, Ryan Garcia and Yuriorkis Gamboa along the way. He currently holds the WBA lightweight title, which he is set to defend against Lamont Roach on March 1 in New York City.

Speaking on A Safe Place Podcast, Davis was asked about his ‘dream fight’, naming Floyd Mayweather Jr as the opponent he would line up for himself.

“Me vs. Floyd [Mayweather].”

Mayweather played a major role in the early stages of Davis’ career, although their relationship turned sour back in 2022. The pair decided to part ways and end their professional working relationship ended abruptly for a number of reasons.

Both ‘Tank’ and Mayweather have also been linked with a fight against eachother, although this is yet to materialise. ‘Money’ has not fought as a professional since 2017 when he defeated MMA legend Conor McGregor in his 50th and final contest.

The 47-year-old from Grand Rapids, Michigan has remained somewhat active within the sport since his bout against McGregor, having had a number of exhibition contests against the likes of Tenshin Nasukawa, Logan Paul and Aaron Chalmers. Mayweather has left the door open for a return to the sport in 2025, although an opponent and fight date for the boxing legend is yet to be officially announced.

Anthony Joshua was largely out-gunned by Daniel Dubois last September at Wembley Stadium, but managed to almost turn the tide towards the end.

Dubois, who had been elevated to IBF Champion, entered the ring an underdog. Despite that, he hurt ‘AJ’ significantly in the first round with a shot that would shape the entire contest.

Joshua showed incredible heart to stick around, being dropped a total of four times before the eventual fifth round ending. Before the final shot put him down and rendered him unable to make the referee’s count, he had his best success of the fight.

Speaking to the Ring Magazine, Dubois said the shot in question was like ‘a bomb going off.’

“Honestly, it was a quick thing. It was in the moment. I just composed myself. It was a hell of a shot. I’ve watched it back and I’ve heard the sound. It’s like a bomb going off. But yeah [I’ve got a good chin], I just composed myself, studied what I was doing and took the chance, took victory.”

There may be a rematch down the line, it is certainly a fight Joshua wants, however Dubois first defends his belt against Joseph Parker on February 22. Should he retain it, he will look to face unified champion Oleksandr Usyk to become undisputed.

Meanwhile, Joshua is in the market for an opponent after Tyson Fury announced his retirement and put paid to talks of a long-awaited clash.
