Claressa Shields floored Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse on three occasions in second round knockout win in Detroit; the American star stepped up two weight classes to fight for the WBO light-heavyweight title and also claimed Lepage-Joanisse’s WBC heavyweight belt

Claressa Shields knocked out Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse with ease in the second round to secure world titles in a fourth and fifth weight division.

Shields stepped up two weight classes to fight for the WBO light-heavyweight title and also claimed Lepage-Joanisse’s WBC heavyweight belt after flooring the Canadian on three occasions in Detroit.

Spiteful combinations from Shields troubled Lepage-Joanisse from the opening bell and she ruthlessly ended the fight in the following round.

Claressa Shields THE FIRE INSIDE

With her back to the ropes, Shields unloaded a flurry of punches that sent Lepage-Joanisse crashing to the canvas.

Lepage-Joanisse rose unsteadily and was floored again by a follow up attack from Shields that ended with a short, sharp right hand.

Another overhand right sent Lepage-Joanisse down again and the referee waved it off, sparking celebrations from Shields and her hometown fans.

“Looking at Vanessa in her fights, she pushed girls back because her legs are very strong,” said Shields.

Claressa Shields

“We made sure I have the power in my legs to push her back, and not get pushed back, and also really worked on the strength in my arms.”

Shields, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, had previously won won titles at 154, 160 and 168 pounds.

On the undercard, Julian Smith, a deaf boxer from the Chicago area, improved to 9-2 with an upset split-decision victory over Shohjahon Ergashev at super-lightweight.

Gervonta Davis has been dominant throughout his professional boxing career.

Having been world champion from super-featherweight all the way up to super-lightweight, he is now focusing on being one of the top dogs at 135lbs and is the reigning WBA lightweight champion.

His record currently stands at 30-0 with 28 of those wins coming by knockout, having stopped the likes of Ryan Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz, and most recently Frank Martin during his career.

There are several fighters that fans still want to see him in the ring with though, including current WBC champion Shakur Stevenson and former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney.

With those big names in mind, ‘Tank’ has now revealed who he believes to be the only man that is capable of beating him.

Gervonta Davis

“The only person that can beat me is Gervonta Davis. The others can’t touch me at all. They have all been in the ring with me and I cracked both of them. It ain’t no 50-50 fight. How you going to keep me off when you don’t have any power?”

Davis then revealed how he has got the better of Haney during sparring sessions between the two in the past.

“I sparred him twice, the first time his father took him out the ring. I almost knocked him out in Floyd’s gym.”

‘Tank’ is currently expected to return to the ring in March to defend his WBA lightweight title against current 130lb champion Lamont Roach, and the challenger has made a defiant knockout prediction ahead of the bout.

Mayweather has been active in the exhibition boxing scene since retirement, fighting both Conor McGregor and Logan Paul

IShowSpeed, the popular Twitch streamer known for his wild challenges to professional athletes, has set his sights on one of boxing’s all-time greats: Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Following his numerous antics, including racing sprinter Noah Lyles, taking on WWE’s Randy Orton, and sparring with Manny PacquiaoIShowSpeed is now eyeing an exhibition match against the undefeated former world champion.

In a recent interview with NFL legend Shannon Sharpe, IShowSpeed discussed the possibility of fighting Mayweather. When asked if he would face the boxing icon in an exhibition bout, the 18-year-old didn’t hesitate.

“Yes,” he responded confidently.

Floyd Mayweather

“I believe, but I’m a Manny Pacquiao fan. I think Manny Pacquiao is the GOAT in boxing, in my opinion… I take Manny over Floyd.”

Despite his admiration for Pacquiao, IShowSpeed was still excited by the idea of facing MayweatherSharpe, eager to stir up the conversation, quickly called on Mayweather to make the match happen.

Floyd, make it happen,” Sharpe urged, while IShowSpeed followed up with a direct challenge.

Floyd, hey Floyd, you don’t want the work either, bro. I promise you, Floyd. 6 months, let’s go.”

IShowSpeed would be ready to face Mayweather within six months

IShowSpeed remained firm in his intentions, stating that if Mayweather’s team reached out for a potential match, he would be ready to go.

Floyd Mayweather Bet Against Isaac Cruz

“100%,” he confirmed, adding that he had been looking forward to an opportunity like this for a long time.

Sharpe, recalling Mayweather’s previous exhibition fight with Logan Paul, seemed to hint that the 50-0 champ might consider a challenge from IShowSpeed.

IShowSpeed acknowledged the possibility but expressed doubt about Mayweather taking up the offer, suggesting that Floyd may be “scared” of facing him.

We’ve been fighting that [slow play] for, God, ever since I grew up watching the game,” said an exasperated Tiger Woods in 2019. Not the first time, the 15-time major champion was vocal about the pace of play. In 2012, Woods suggested strict penalties – not in dough but in strokes – to curb slow play. “Strokes [are] money,” said the former world no.1.

As a player, he couldn’t steamroll that decision over the entire cohort of PGA Tour pros. But now that the 48-year-old has his own league, TGL, Woods and his buddy, Rory McIlroy were quick to walk the talk.

Entered shot clock.  You get 40 seconds to hit a shot. Miss it and you get docked one stroke.

Severe, you say? Well, vociferous slow-play critic, Matt Fitzpatrick is on board as are his teammates. The former US Open champ is part of TGL’s New York Golf Club. In a promotional event, former NFL quarterback, avid golfer, and New York Golf Club’s investor, Eli Manning asked, “What about [the] shot clock? Is that scary or exciting?

I think that’s good for us,” the British International said after looking at his teammates.  Now, the Englishman follows a meticulous note-taking routine himself. His yardage book is filled with scribbling about the grains and greens. But Fitzpatrick is one of the fastest players on the Tour, regardless.

New York Golf Club’s roster includes Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler, and Cameron Young. Appearing as gusts in the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (Fallon is another investor in the TGL franchise), Fitzpatrick & Co. emphasized shot clock won’t cause any headaches for them.

Matt Fitzpatrick’s support for the shot clock wasn’t really surprising. The 2023 RBC Heritage champion has never pulled the punches when it came to slow play. Even recently, the 30-year-old tweeted in support of Lucas Glover who lambasted the PGA Tour’s recent changes.

Matt Fitzpatrick lamented the PGA Tour’s lack of sincerity in curbing slow play

The PGA Tour Policy Board has approved the controversial changes to overhaul the structure of the Tour in 2026. The 156-player field will now be reduced to 144, 132, and in some cases 120. The rationale was that reducing field size would allow events to be wrapped up in time instead of spilling over to the next day.

2009 US Open champion, Lucas Glover Frankley called it ‘terrible’. The veteran player told Golfweek, “And then hiding behind [the] pace of play, I think challenges our intelligence. They think we’re stupid.” Fitzpatrick agreed. “He’s so right, pathetic that pace of play is spoken about every year and nothing ever gets done,” the two-time PGA Tour winner tweeted.

“No regrets to get in ring one last time,” says Tyson after fighting Paul

Mike Tyson embarked in the ring last week against Youtuber-turned-fighter Jake Paul, but the 58-year-old fought hard to compete with his much younger challenger.

Paul dominated the game throughout the majority of the eight rounds and earned a unanimous verdict victory, with several fans registering their disappointments after watching the 2024 model of ‘Iron Mike.’

It was Tyson’s first professional clash since 2005. However, he disclosed during his post-match press briefing that he may consider boxing again, with Jake’s brother Logan proposed as an rival.

“I don’t think so [that this is my last time in the ring]. I have more in me. Maybe I’ll fight his brother [Logan Paul].”

Mike Tyson Jake Paul

Turning to his social media account, Tyson has apparently made a U-turn on those comments, indicating that it was the final time he would step through the ropes.

Tyson, 58, was overpowered by Paul, 27, via undisputed verdict on Friday in an eight-round clash that went the distance at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Tyson appeared every bit his age in the ring and only landed 18 of 97 thrown punches, whereas Paul landed 78 of 278 thrown punches. Following the loss, only the seventh of his main boxing career, Tyson was doubtful to say whether that marked his last match.

“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful. No regrets to get in ring one last time.”

‘Iron Mike’ also made bare some of the issues he had to withstand in order to combat, after it was suspended from its original date of July.

Mike Tyson

“I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won,” he stated.

Tyson’s status precedes him. In his prime age he was the first heavyweight boxer to concurrently hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles, as well as the only heavyweight to unify them in succession. But currently, Tyson is not just retired, he hasn’t even fought an exhibition bout in four years.

Canelo Alvarez went up against Floyd Mayweather over a decade ago.

They met in September 2013 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with Canelo defending his WBC super-welterweight title and Mayweather putting his WBA belt on the line

It was seen as a tough test for Mayweather heading into the fight, with Alvarez bringing an unbeaten record of 42-0-1, along with wins over the likes of Shane Mosley, Austin Trout and Josesito Lopez.

It didn’t turn out to be that way though, with Mayweather dominating the majority of the action on his way to a points win, even though the judges controversially scored it much closer than many fans expected.

Canelo has since given his verdict on how hard Mayweather hit during their fight, needing just two words to sum it up whilst speaking to Fight Hub TV.

Floyd Mayweather

The Mexican superstar then acknowledged that even though Mayweather may not have power, it makes it a very difficult style to compete against.

“He has a style that doesn’t make for attractive fights. It’s very difficult to land punches. He’s not aggressive, he doesn’t punch hard at all.”

Mayweather fought fight five more times following the bout with Canelo, including a showdown with long-term rival Manny Pacquiao. His victory there helped him retire with a perfect 50-0 record back in 2017.

Canelo meanwhile has a current record of 62-2-2 and is now a four-weight world champion, having gone on to become undisputed at super-middleweight and champion at both middleweight and light-heavyweight following his fight with Mayweather.

Conor McGregor produced one of his most ruthless performances before entering ‘The Money Fight’ against 11-time boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather.

When they collided back in 2017, the pair generated more than $600 million in revenue for their monumental crossover event, cementing themselves as two of the world’s highest paid athletes.

Not only that, but Floyd Mayweather reportedly secured a staggering $300 million payday, while Conor McGregor came away with around $100 million following his tenth-round stoppage defeat.

Still, McGregor’s UFC career was unquestionably on an upwards trajectory before his harsh boxing lesson arrived at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.

Conor McGregor dispatches Eddie Alvarez with lethal second-round finish

‘The Notorious’ claimed the UFC featherweight title with a destructive second-round knockout over Chad Mendes, before defending his crown against MMA legend Jose Aldo in 2015.

Sure enough, McGregor outshone his previous display with an even more emphatic finish, halting Aldo within 13 seconds of their contest.

As he then stepped up to face seasoned veteran Nate Diaz at lightweight, though, the Irishman was ultimately forced to tap in a shocking upset defeat.

However, he swiftly exacted his revenge in their immediate rematch before stepping into the cage with Eddie Alvarez, the reigning 155 lb king, in 2016.

This was where McGregor’s UFC career truly reignited, with Alvarez – fresh off his first-round knockout victory over Rafael Dos Anjos – standing in his way of reaching legendary status.

Just two days before the 2017 Australian Open, Serena Williams rang her husband Alexis Ohanian to immediately fly out to Melbourne.

What was waiting on the other side? Six positive pregnancy tests inside a paper bag. With her head determined to swat every opponent out competing for the next eight weeks, her body was seemingly divorced. As Serena would put it, it had “already switched allegiances.” Suddenly, winning was no longer a need; it was a desire. Success, titles, and the checks that come with it were no longer the only reason for waking up in the morning.

Serena won the singles title at the 2017 Australian Open winning the first seven matches, all in straight sets, leading up to the finals. And it came with a hoard of new experiences in her body that she wasn’t accustomed to. Up until this point, she knew of knee busts, ankle rolls, playing with a taped-up Achilles heel, and spasms. But this — metallic taste in the mouth, incomprehensible reasons for “strange” fatigue between points — was going to shift the stakes of the game for Serena forever.

READ: Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian faces shocking health struggles

Seven years have passed since, and seldom do athletes get into a sedentary lifestyle even after retirement. And that’s exactly what happened to her. “The more that I don’t play sports professionally, the more that I think, ‘Okay, this is what I’ve done for literally my entire life, and how do I optimize and keep it up?’”

And there’s another reason. She has two young children: Olympia, 7, and Adira, 1. Setting a good example is one, but staying fit for her kids was a priority for her naturally. And though there may have been a time she thought she was a super-human, she knows that isn’t the case. Add to this the fact that she has suffered through knee injuries, pulmonary embolism, shoulder issues, etc. throughout her tennis career, one can relate to her thought process. In a new interview with PEOPLE (Thursday), it was a show of humility on the part of Serena and that her life in a day is just as similar as the next person,

“Athletes and musicians, I feel like sometimes we think that we’re untouchable and that’s just not true. I literally don’t think of myself any different than anyone else. And I love to try to post relatable content. And I’m not doing it on purpose, it’s just who I am.

“I have the same struggles trying to fit in these darn skirts and I want to follow my health levels too. And I just think it’s so cool for people to see that, especially for me growing up in Compton.

“It’s just like if there’s anyone else watching, know that. Knowing that I’m not any different from you. I’m literally the same. And probably, if anything, you’re probably smarter and better than I am. And that’s kind of what I always like to preach or show,” Serena said, showing her humble side. Yes, this is despite her $300 million net worth.

Over the years, Williams has garnered a huge sum in prize money and sponsorships. Additionally, her business ventures have been flourishing and her net worth has surged. And while Williams is also the undisputed GOAT of women’s tennis, winning 23 Grand Slam titles over her illustrious career, her fellow players have always been amazed by her humble nature. Canadian star Bianca Andreescu once made a candid revelation about Serena’s nature.

When Bianca Andreescu was impressed by Serena Williams’ humble gesture

Back in 2019, Andreescu won her only Grand Slam title when she defeated Serena Williams in the summit clash of the US Open. It was one of the tournament’s major upsets, as all the odds were pinned in favor of Williams. However, Andreescu produced a stunning display to defeat the American legend in straight sets, 6-3 7-5. Despite Williams falling in the final hurdle, she made a wonderful gesture toward Andreescu.

Speaking about the encounter, Andreescu once said, “She’s a very nice person. After the final at the US Open, she came up to me in the locker room and she said really nice things about me, and I said really nice things about her as well… even though she’s heard it so many times. But yeah. It was a nice encounter.”

This was just one of the many examples where Williams’ humble nature came to the fore. While her exploits on the court are no secret, Serena Williams is a legend in the true sense with her down-to-earth nature impressing many. That being said, she also knows who she is and does not underestimate herself.

In 2017, she stated, “I try to be so humble that I forget I have accomplished so much,” she said, explaining that hard work was key to her success.”

The retired tennis star and the Reddit co-founder married in 2017 and have since welcomed two daughters together

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian are celebrating seven years of marriage!

On Saturday, Nov. 16, the retired tennis star, 43, and the Reddit co-founder, 41, each shared heartfelt social media posts to mark their latest wedding anniversary.

Williams’ Instagram post featured photos of her family’s costume party from several days prior. Ohanian and their 7-year-old daughter Olympia were dressed as Roman gladiators, while Williams and 15-month-old daughter Adira sported colorful looks. Another photo showed the tech executive kissing Adira on the head as he held her, and yet another captured the family of four posing together with big smiles.

“7 years has gone so fast… Happy anniversary @alexisohanian. Thank you for being the best dad to our girls @olympiaohanian and @adiraohanian,” Williams wrote. “Thanks for also making average November day a costume party and making it special. ❤️❣️.”

Celebrating Williams’ role as a mom, Ohanian commented on her post: “❤️ Thank you for blessing me with the two best humans we ever met.”

In his own Instagram post, Ohanian reflected on the couple’s 2017 New Orleans nuptials.

“7 years ago today, we got married here,” he wrote. “Now we get to bring these two for beignets. Happy Anniversary 🎉.”

“You’re an amazing mama. I’m very lucky to have met you @serenawilliams @olympiaohanian @adiraohanian,” he added, alongside a snapshot of the family members all together, seemingly hanging in New Orleans.

The couple — who first met in May 2015 after they were seated next to each other at an event ahead of the Italian Open — tied the knot in 2017 at New Orleans’ Contemporary Arts Center in front of a slew of celebrity guests including Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Eva Longoria and fellow tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian's Relationship Timeline

Williams and Ohanian have been candid about their romance since then, including sharing how they keep their relationship fresh as they parent their two daughters and work together on a number of business ventures.

Back in 2021, Williams opened up about her relationship with the venture capitalist, admitting in an interview on The Question Game that “marriage is not bliss, but it can be if you work at it.”

The 23-time Grand Slam winner also revealed that motherhood was always a goal for her, saying, “I always knew I wanted kids. I never knew when but I always knew I wanted kids at some point.”

“I learned that love is an amazing feeling. And if you have an opportunity to feel it, then it’s a special thing,” she added.

Earlier this year, the couple had a hilarious viral moment as they were walking along the red carpet at the opening ceremony for the 2024 Paris Olympics. In several videos and photos, Ohanian could be seen standing behind his wife and older daughter, carrying an umbrella to protect them from the pouring rain.

A commentator for Eurosport deemed Ohanian the tennis star’s “umbrella holder,” not realizing he was Williams’ husband.

“[Serena] looks absolutely incredible. She’s got someone just behind us holding an umbrella,” the commentator said. “Those are the levels you aspire to. To have an actual umbrella holder behind you.”

Ohanian immediately got in on the joke, sharing a post from X that read: “TV commentator: ‘Serena Williams even has her own personal umbrella holder’. FYI… the ‘umbrella holder’ ’is Alexis Ohanian, her husband. He’s one of the founders of Reddit. 💀.”

In his own Instagram post with a photo of the viral moment, the tech founder joked: “I’m also Olympia’s personal umbrella holder.”

SERENA Williams has revealed that she won’t step on the scales anymore.

The tennis icon, 43, retired from the sport after the 2022 U.S. Open.

Williams is widely regarded as the greatest female tennis player of all time, having won 23 majors in singles during her glittering career.

During her playing days, she spoke of body image expectations faced by women in sports.

And earlier this week, she revealed on X that she doesn’t even bother to weigh herself anymore.

“I can’t take anymore negativity and lies,” her post began.

“And that’s why I won’t get on scales anymore. . . Can you relate?”

Williams took a break from tennis in 2017 as she became a mom.

She gave birth to daughter Olympia, now seven, in September of that year.

The former world No1 later returned to the sport, reaching several more major finals as a mother.

Williams likes to use her social media platform to preach positivity among her followers.

Last month she wrote on X, “Before you go to bed tonight look yourself in the mirror and say ‘you are gorgeous. You are beautiful and you are loved’. Love ya.”

She later added, “The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another. . .”

In 2014, Williams discussed body image as a female athlete during an interview.

“When I was young I thought I should be built more like an athlete – long and lean – not with a womanly figure,” she told Fitness Magazine.

“Unless I’m eating really healthy, I feel that way almost every other week.

“I feel as if I can do better and be smaller, which I think is just a natural thing for women to feel.

“We’re taught that we have to look a certain way.”

Williams won the U.S Open six times during her playing days.

So it was fitting that the final event of her career was played at Flushing Meadows.

Having announced her upcoming retirement in Vogue, Williams defeated Danka Kovinic in round one on a packed, star-studded Arthur Ashe Stadium.

She then upset second seed Anett Kontaveit in round two, before falling to Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic in the final match of her storied career.
