Manny Pacquiao looks set to match a feat rival Floyd Mayweather managed in 2020 as a planned comeback gets shelved for his political career.

Like all retired legends, Pacquiao is on the International Boxing Hall of Fame ballot three years after his last professional contest. Mayweather took his honor in 2020, becoming a first-ballot Hall of Famer after retiring following his clash with Conor McGregor in 2017.

When boxing media and personnel cast their votes, the ‘Pac-Man’ will undoubtedly be voted into the lucrative boxing archive in Canastota, New York. This scenario would be the earliest opportunity for the eight-weight world champion. The impending induction would potentially mean Pacquiao ends his career after months of trying to nail down a title shot swansong.

As World Boxing News broke exclusively, Pacquiao wanted to fight Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title. The pair held talks, but ultimately, the fight stalled, and Barrios moved on to fight on Paul vs Tyson on November 15

Speaking to WBN earlier this month, MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons hadn’t given up hope. However, with Pacquiao’s political career resuming in May, any other fights are unlikely.

“Let’s see what happens [with Barrios after his fight on the Mike Tyson undercard],” Gibbons told WBN. “We are running out of a little time as ‘Sir Manny’ declared his candidacy for the Senate in 2025. So he’s tied up from February to May 11, when the election is.

“But, anything can happen – after. For sure, that’s [the Barrios title chance], but it is still the fight.”

A confirmed rematch with Floyd Mayweather also looks to have bitten the dust due to only ten weeks remaining until the scheduled return. It would be impossible for Mayweather and Pacquiao to live up to their 2023 promise to fight on a RIZIN bill this New Year’s Eve. Pacquiao took to a RIZIN show to make it official before Mayweather revealed he’d made money simply from the announcement.

Since then, the entire notion of Mayweather vs Pacquiao II has gone silent.

The IBHOF recently named Vinny Pazienza, Nigel Benn, Joel Casamayor, Chris Eubank, Mikey Garcia, Shawn Porter, Antonio Tarver, Mikkel Kessler, and Shinsuke Yamanaka as other Hall of Fame hopefuls.

Pacquiao’s name will be on the list for induction in 2025, barring a significant development.

How much money did boxing legend Floyd Mayweather generate on Pay Per View throughout his remarkable boxing career?

World Boxing News has crunched the numbers regarding the actual takings Mayweather banked without taking anything away to make purse payments or event costs.

Mayweather amassed an incredible amount of cash throughout his career and continues totaling at least eight figures every time he steps into the ring. This will continue on August 24 when he fights John Gotti III in a rematch on Mexican soil.

Floyd Mayweather’s career PPV earnings
There’s long been an insistence from his team or the media that ‘Floyd Mayweather is boxing’s first billion-dollar man.’ Well, WBN can reveal that this is undeniably not the case. Mayweather is at least the sport’s first Billion-Dollar Man three times over if you take all the money from every sale of his PPV fights and add it together.

Floyd Mayweather made $1.8 billion in sales in the United States alone. His three billion at the worldwide box office proves he’s on his own in the paid platform stakes. Pay Per View buys featuring the five-weight king since his debut on the platform in 2005 at an average purchase price of $75; you’d even come to numbers north of $1.8 billion in US revenue.

Then, if you consider Mayweather’s other career purses and contract factors, the amount easily surpasses the two-billion-dollar mark in the United States alone. Worldwide sales of every event in hundreds of countries certainly exceed three and possibly into four, depending on how deep you delve.

It’s quite a dumbfounding statistic, and Mayweather has at least one billion in his pocket. Floyd’s Showtime contract alone made over one billion dollars from 14 million total buys [if you include Conor McGregor].

Floyd Mayweather – Total United States PPV Sales:

Sep 12, 2015 – Mayweather vs. Andre Berto Mayweather (Showtime 400k)

Aug 26, 2017 – Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor (Showtime 4.3m)

Mayweather’s money-making numbers
The numbers are staggering. Most of which can add another 500 to 800k for worldwide distribution. Nobody has been generating those numbers since the days of closed-circuit TV without the home box office angle.

If you consider that Mayweather took several breaks during his tenure, some lasting over a year, the final total could have been over five billion dollars. Mayweather is and was money, no matter how you look at it.

Next month, at the age of 47, Mayweather will do it again, knowing that he only has to promise the fans a fight to put another huge check in the safe. Despite his ‘Heist Tour’ failing to materialize, Mayweather doesn’t need it. He can pick and choose when and who he fights and still does not bat an eyelid when considering the figures.

Mayweather earns one million dollars for most of his press conference appearances, making him far and away the most lucrative boxer ever.

Manny Pacquiao is one day away from his exhibition three rounds bout against former K-1 champion Rukiya Anpo in Saitama, Japan.

Meanwhile, Ryan Garcia has arrived in the country to attend the RIZIN 3 event as he had promised on social media previously! However, soon after arrival, Garcia seems to have sent fans into a frenzy with his latest post on social media facing off against ‘Pac-Man’.

45-year-old Pacquiao has previously shown openness about potentially facing Ryan Garcia among others, but no one expected it to happen. On the other hand, Ryan Garcia is currently serving his one-year ban from boxing after testing positive for banned substances during the Devin Haney fight. Regardless, Garcia didn’t miss this opportunity to get the fans talking with his latest post.

A handful of days ago, Ryan Garcia took to his Instagram account to announce he will be heading to Japan, writing, “To all my Japanese fans in Tokyo, I’M ON MY WAY! I‘m headed to Super Rizin 3”. On 25th July, he reached the country and today shared a picture of himself facing off against ‘Pac-Man’ on X and Instagram.

In his post on Instagram, Garcia wrote, “It’s on like donkey Kong @mannypacquiao[.] I love you and respect you But a battle is a battle[.]” Meanwhile, his tweet on X read, “[Let] the games begin”. Pacquiao was on the headlines for potentially facing Mario Barrios, but no one had seen this coming. So, people quickly took the comment section to let Ryan know it won’t end well for his health.

‘Pac-Man’ hasn’t fought in a professional boxing match since his August 2021 loss to Yordenis Ugas. Despite that, it didn’t take long for fans to warn Garcia about the consequences. One user suggested such a fight could potentially be life threatening for Garcia. Forget about life threatening, it’s highly unlikely such a bout would ever happen, at least in the US.

Another user echoed similar sentiments, suggesting despite the age gap, they have a sneaky feeling Pacquiao would easily win the fight. While Pacquiao is formidable, age gets to everyone, and the right division champion is no different.

Meanwhile, this user was repulsed by the idea, claiming such fights are “not right”. This user might not want to tune in on Netflix on November 15th!

While the previous user was against the fight, this guy was all for it, going as far as to suggest that the fight should happen in Japan. Well, it could happen in Japan, but it won’t be recognized by the sanctioning bodies in the US.

Someone else highlighted that Ryan Garcia would face several issues in defeating Manny Pacquiao if the fight happens. If Pacquiao can channel his former self with the crazy hand speed, ring IQ, and movement, it is possible.

Having said that, the post from Ryan Garcia is most likely a way of hyping up Pacquiao’s upcoming bout. But who knows? Crazier things are happening, and Pacquiao and Garcia may just end up facing each other.
