“No regrets to get in ring one last time,” says Tyson after fighting Paul

Mike Tyson embarked in the ring last week against Youtuber-turned-fighter Jake Paul, but the 58-year-old fought hard to compete with his much younger challenger.

Paul dominated the game throughout the majority of the eight rounds and earned a unanimous verdict victory, with several fans registering their disappointments after watching the 2024 model of ‘Iron Mike.’

It was Tyson’s first professional clash since 2005. However, he disclosed during his post-match press briefing that he may consider boxing again, with Jake’s brother Logan proposed as an rival.

“I don’t think so [that this is my last time in the ring]. I have more in me. Maybe I’ll fight his brother [Logan Paul].”

Turning to his social media account, Tyson has apparently made a U-turn on those comments, indicating that it was the final time he would step through the ropes.

Tyson, 58, was overpowered by Paul, 27, via undisputed verdict on Friday in an eight-round clash that went the distance at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Tyson appeared every bit his age in the ring and only landed 18 of 97 thrown punches, whereas Paul landed 78 of 278 thrown punches. Following the loss, only the seventh of his main boxing career, Tyson was doubtful to say whether that marked his last match.

“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful. No regrets to get in ring one last time.”

‘Iron Mike’ also made bare some of the issues he had to withstand in order to combat, after it was suspended from its original date of July.

Mike Tyson

“I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won,” he stated.

Tyson’s status precedes him. In his prime age he was the first heavyweight boxer to concurrently hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles, as well as the only heavyweight to unify them in succession. But currently, Tyson is not just retired, he hasn’t even fought an exhibition bout in four years.

Jake Paul and Most Valuable Promotions have denied rigging the Mike Tyson fight following several claims about the controversial event.

Reports claiming that Paul vs Tyson had a preordained outcome have continually dogged the headliner since Netflix broadcasted the show to over 100 million viewers on November 15. The allegations are so rife that MVP and Paul were forced to release a statement to World Boxing News over the matter.

They told WBN, “Following the wide circulation of incorrect and baseless claims that undermine the integrity of the Paul vs. Tyson event, Most Valuable Promotions [MVP] would like to set the record straight regarding the contractual agreements and the nature of the fight.

Mike Tyson rigged Jake Paul

“Rigging a professional boxing match is a federal crime in the United States of America. Paul vs. Tyson was a professional match sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations [TDLR]. Both fighters, in good faith, performed to the best of their abilities with the goal of winning the fight.

“There were absolutely no restrictions – contractual or otherwise – around either fighter. Each boxer was able to use his full arsenal to win the fight. Any agreement to the contrary would violate TDLR boxing rules.”

The MVP defense comes after Jake Paul admitted holding meetings with Tyson about the fight alongside his wife, Kiki. In an occurrence that spawned the event four years ago, what was discussed between them has not been made public or confirmed to have been recorded.

Paul and MVP have assured detractors that anything perceived as pre-agreed between the pair is untrue.

“Trash talk and speculation are common in sports, and athletes and promoters need to tolerate nonsensical commentary, jokes, and opinions. But suggesting anything other than full effort from these fighters is not only naïve but an insult to the work they put into their craft and to the sport itself.

“It is further illogical and inane that MVP, in the debut of a hopeful long-term partnership with the world’s biggest streamer—an organization that made its first-ever foray into live professional sports with Paul vs. Tyson—would even so much as consider such a perverse violation of the rules of competition,” they concluded.

Tyson has walked away with $20 million and only a slight dent on his professional record. Meanwhile, Paul has been left to pick up the pieces as he attempts to keep doubts over his boxing career at bay long enough to secure another event with Netflix.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is currently touted as a possible next opponent for a WBA title.

Heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson returned to the ring on Friday in a much-scrutinised clash that got the whole world talking.

Despite losing out to YouTuber-turned boxer Jake Paul, ‘Iron Mike’ broke a couple of records simply by stepping through the ropes, but one of those achievements has been eclipsed, just a few days later.

As many assumed would be the case, Tyson was understandably a shadow of his former self, scoring just 18 punches across eight rounds and appearing to be an immobile, ‘sitting duck’ for Paul to land when he pleased.

Mike Tyson almost died

Fortunately for the 58-year-old veteran, and for the viewers watching with any ounce of respect for the former undisputed champion, Paul showed mercy and did not take advantage of his flat-footed dance partner, doing enough to win each round but seemingly refusing to attempt to knock Tyson out.

After the unanimous-decision win was confirmed for ‘The Problem Child’, it was official that Mike Tyson had extended his professional record and now boasted the longest career of any of the 111 heavyweight champions in boxing history.

Additionally, the once ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ became the oldest former heavyweight champion to take part in a professional contest.

Yet, Tyson was not the only heavyweight making a return to the professional ranks, with Ike Ibeabuchi and Shannon Briggs eyeing up returns, as well as Oliver McCall.

Last night, a 59-year-old Oliver McCall (59-14) made his comeback to end a relatively small five-and-a-half-year spell of inactivity, compared to the 19 years that Tyson was absent from the ring.

‘The Atomic Bull’ faced 54-year-old Stacy Frazier (16-22) in a scrap at ‘Country Box’ and scored a second-round knockout over his fellow American – simultaneously becoming the oldest former heavyweight champion to fight professionally and oldest to win an official bout.

Tyson will retain his record of the longest career (14,499 days) of any former heavyweight champion for now, with McCall now thrusting up to second spot (14,262 days), in front of Roy Jones Jr. (12,384) and Jack Johnson (12,231).

However, the Chicago-born contender may be set to eclipse Tyson’s record during 2025, showing no plans to retire and even calling out Jake Paul during the aftermath of his 60th win.

Damning footage has emerged and gone viral on social media of Mike Tyson appearing to hold back his punches during his controversial fight against Jake Paul.

In the short snippet posted to X, Tyson, 58, threw a feint with his left hand before starting to follow through with his right hand as Paul, 27, was exposed, but he seemingly stopped himself.

Unsurprisingly, this has led to many fans online asking whether the fight was rigged, and whether or not there was a mutual agreement between the pair not to land any serious and heavy punches. Iron Mike’s opponent was left wide open and there for the taking, so why on earth didn’t the boxing legend go through with his shot?

The eight-round fight saw the former YouTuber Paul take the victory via unanimous decision, but many fans had pleaded for the fight to never happen in the first place.

Pros and fans alike didn’t want the bout taking place

Tony Bellew, the former WBC cruiserweight champion, tweeted during the fight: “We are all to blame for this man! We are all talking and watching! We have to stop this fool! Don’t tune into him until he fights someone who is fit, healthy and not a grandfather! Any proper boxing people helping Paul need to look at themselves ffs. This is just sad.”

In the lead-up to the fight, many speculated around the legitimacy of the event due to Tyson’s age and his condition, with conspiracies circulating across social media about the potential outcome.

Former world champion Carl Froch told GB News the night before the fight that he believes it is a scripted fight and that there was something in the contract to stop Tyson from trying to hurt Paul.

During the fight, it was soon clear that Tyson was a shell of his former self, with unstable legs and the constant glove biting – some fans expressed feeling sad to see the former world champion struggling.

However, this clip has fired up conspiracists yet again with some suggesting that the fight was fixed for the Problem Child to win. Even Sara Bailey, women’s WBA world light flyweight champion, who supported Lucas Bahdi on the undercard, told ES NEWS she believed it was fixed.

After months and months of build-up – which started with criticism and promises of knockouts and neared its end with more criticism and ‘Iron’ Mike slapping ‘The Problem Child’ – Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson finally happened.

Did it live up to the hype? Not really. But something that has remained constant through the months is numbers – be it their age difference or their respective records. And now, an Instagram post has been drawing considerable interest for its thoughtful and comparative note.

It talks about the boxing journey of some of the well-known former and current world champions. Many build their resume after going through a series of what is commonly called ‘journeyman fights.’ The poster argued that a close personal look would reveal that’s pretty much the route Jake Paul took since he began his boxing career. So, if one considers the point, then the only differentiator between Paul and the boxing champs remains the ability to pull crowds.

It’s no secret that ‘The Problem Child’ pulled off a blockbuster in Texas last week, maybe not in terms of fighting, but definitely in terms of hype. Nearly 70,000 spectators and millions more on Netflix watched his 8-round bout against Mike Tyson when they took each other on at AT&T Stadium on November 15. The show featured the undisputed rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano as well.

So, according to @notjustboxing, whether one likes or loathes Jake Paul, the fact remains as follows: “There is not much difference between Jake Paul’s lack of competition in his first 12 fights compared to any other professional boxer’s first 12 fights. The only difference is the man is a marketing genius. He manages to get millions of people interested.

Don’t believe it? Swipe through this post and see for yourself!

Beginning his boxing career with fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib, Paul fought former UFC fighters and champions such as Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, and Anderson Silva. Switching gears, last year, Jake Paul fought Tyson Fury’s brother Tommy Fury, a professional boxer. The ‘TNT’ defeated Paul by a split decision. Paul resumed fighting boxers after the Nate Diaz fight. But both André August and Ryan Bourland were semi-retired and 35 years old.

Let’s look at some of Paul’s fights and how old his opponents were when they fought: –

  • November 2020: Defeated retired NBA player Nate Robinson (36)
  • April 2021: Defeated retired MMA fighter Ben Askren (37)
  • August & December 2021: Defeated retired MMA fighter Tyron Woodley twice (39)
  • October 2022: Defeated retired MMA fighter Anderson Silva (47)
  • February 2023: Lost to boxer Tommy Fury (23)
  • August 2023: Defeated semi-retired MMA fighter Nate Diaz (38)
  • November 2024: Defeated retired boxer Mike Tyson (58)

As is evident from the aforementioned list, Jake Paul (27) lost to the only boxer who was under 30 when they fought. ‘The Problem Child’ was 26 at the time.

The overall vibe of the comments suggested displeasure with the analysis. Let’s check what some of them had to suggest.

This fan promptly picked the sole oddity in Jake Paul’s boxing record. “Gotta realize Jake fought 1 boxer who boxes to this day; the rest are old and retired athletes. Jake’s proven nothing,” they said. Perhaps they were hinting at Tommy Fury, who inflicted Paul’s first loss. From retired UFC champions, ‘The Problem Child did move to boxers. However, including Tyson, they were retired or semi-retired and old.

The next one also caught the loophole. They said, “Except the others fought people who were active fighters within their chosen sports and weren’t famous YouTubers before hand.” Champions like Floyd Mayweather Jr., Canelo Alvarez, and Gervonta Davis may have fought a few journeymen initially; however, they were dyed-in-the-wool boxers, not someone who had crossed over.

The following fan shared similar thoughts. One could blame the former and current boxing champions for helping themselves generously with the easiest of challenges. “There is a HUGE difference,” they said. However, they fought real boxers who met the weight requirement, and the bouts followed standard boxing regulations. “People who “cherry pick” are still fighting other boxers who weigh the same as they do… They also don’t fight two-minute rounds—10 fights in…” the fan said.

For the next follower, Jake Paul’s shows are nothing short of a ‘circus’. They said, “I don’t consider him a boxer. He only fights older guys or nonboxers. It’s just a circus.” That is pretty much the most common and frequent point taken to pan the Ohioan.

Amidst visible resentment, a message of clarity surfaced. “At the end of the day, professional sports are just entertainment. Love him or loathe him, the chump generates lots of widespread entertainment,” this follower said. As the Netflix show at the AT&T Stadium showed, Jake Paul’s event pulled crowds, even if the visits were more out of curiosity or for mere entertainment.

Some strong observations, indeed. Most feel that Jake Paul needs to do more than just marketing gimmicks if he wants to cement a formidable boxing legacy.

For his next outing, ‘The Problem Child’ seems to be aiming at a cruiserweight clash against none other than Canelo Alvarez. But he appears to have received a callout from the undisputed champion Artur Beterbiev as well. When the news came, many fans suggested that he should take up the fight. But will he go against boxing’s scariest man?

62-year-old Evander Holyfield wants a trilogy fight against Mike Tyson.

This weekend, the 58-year-old Tyson faced off against Jake Paul and struggled to throw punches due to a knee issue.

Holyfield attended the fight at AT&T stadium and gave his honest assessment of Tyson’s performance.

“You can tell something was wrong with Tyson’s leg. His balance was off”

Despite the lackluster performance, Holyfield called out Tyson on social media. “The fans want it 🥊 #unfinishedbusiness” wrote Holyfield.

Tyson immediately shut down any fight speculation against Holyfield.

“I love you brother, but the trilogy is our friendship.”

After his loss, Tyson revealed that he had nearly died leading up to his fight against Paul.

“I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won.”

“To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you”

The eight rounds of the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight were like a rollercoaster of emotions for all the fans.

It was a disappointing match where every fan witnessed a shell of their beloved boxer and it was quite heartbreaking. By the end of the fight, the former heavyweight champion was in survival mode and lost the fight via unanimous decision. While his ring IQ and ability to adapt kept him competitive throughout the bout, it was a sorry affair.

There was a mutual feeling of frustration not only amongst the fans but also with fellow boxers who consider Mike Tyson an idol. It looked like Gervonta Davis was the most affected as he launched a barrage of attacks on Jake Paul on his social media and challenged him to a fight. As per the expectations, ‘The Problem Child’ accepted the challenge, showcasing his desire for the fight.

During the fight, Tank took to Instagram and uploaded several stories(which he later deleted) targeting El Gallo. He wrote, “To the bozo that shared the ring w Mike..you a whole bozo for this and you didn’t get the job done [sh*t emoji] head..” stating how Paul did not deliver on the promise to knock Mike Tyson out.

He uploaded another story directly challenging The Problem Child and issued a stern warning. ” One more thing… ima beat the brakes off Jake when I catch em…upper cut jap jap left hook upper cut..hook. Watch,” wrote Davis.

In addition to that, he also lauded the effort by Tyson and celebrated the legend. He wrote in another story, “you’ll forever be a legend..rather you like it or not and it will never be another one! And I understand you so well..all this sh*t don’t mean nothing,” implying that this match is irrelevant and this won’t affect Tyson’s legacy.

While Gervonta Davis and Mike Tyson do not know each other personally, both of them have deep admiration and respect for each other. The 58-year-old has publicly praised Tank many times and even called him the pound-for-pound best fighter.

On the other hand, due to his short stature and destructive power, the boxing world has branded Tank as the “Modern-Day Mike Tyson.” That is why this match must have hurt Davis even more than others. He must have uploaded those stories in fury, as he later deleted those.

However, it was too late and Jake Paul was not someone who shied away from the challenges. After all, he has made his whole career by riling up the fanbase and his opponents. After the match, he not only accepted Tank’s challenge but also issued an open challenge to Canelo Alvarez, leaving everyone speechless.

After the fight, El Gallo opened up about his future in boxing and laid down a challenge for the unified super middleweight champion. He stated, “It’s Canelo. Me vs. Canelo at 200lb for the cruiserweight championship of the world is the biggest fight,” and termed it even bigger than the fight he had with Tyson.

Following that, during the post-match conference, the reporters asked Paul about Gervonta Davis’ comment and if he would be interested in the fight. Without wasting a moment, El Gallo replied, “I mean I’d be down let’s run it like I’ll be super down,” giving his go for the fight.

Things once again got heated up when MVP’s CEO Nakisa Bidarian stated that “Gervonta needs Jake Paul,” instead of it being the other way around. After all, the payday that MVP and Paul can provide Tank would be unlike anything else.

The Problem Child even managed to sneak in a dig at the WBA lightweight champion. He said, “Is there a height limit in boxing?” trolling Tank for his small height(5’5) as compared to Paul, who is 6’1 feet. However, if this match would happen, height would be the least of the duo’s concerns. After all, the fighters are 70lbs apart from each other. Jake Paul just competed against Mike Tyson at 227. On the other hand, Tank is a champion in the lightweight division.

Even though Tank has won championships in three weight categories, he has never gone past 140 in his professional career. So, many things have to fall in place for this fight to happen and currently, it is just a fantasy.

A few years ago, Jake Paul created a huge fiasco when he stole Floyd Mayweather‘s cap.

The incident happened in 2021 during the press event of Mayweather’s exhibition fight against Logan Paul. During the face-off, The Problem Child grabbed Money’s cap in a move of utter disrespect.

Three years later, the wheels have turned, and Jake Paul is standing in the same boat. After his victory against Mike Tyson, El Gallo went on to greet the fans. Out of nowhere, a random fan from the crowd removed Paul’s cap and threw it away. This incident left the fans chuckling as they enjoyed the former YouTuber being teased by the crowd.

The viral clip uploaded by ESPN Ring Side features Jake Paul going up to the crowd to meet the fans. The 27-year-old was giving an autograph to one of his fans. That is when a person behind the crowd stole the cap from Paul’s head and threw it away. Contrasting to the expectations, The Problem Child silently walked away and picked up his cap without creating any problem. This was not something that anyone expected, as Paul is known for his problematic behavior.

However, this incident has stark similarities to the time when El Gallo showed Money the same disrespect. A month before the Mayweather and Logan Paul scheduled fight, the duo came face-to-face for a news conference. During the event, the boxing hall-of-fame got into an argument with Jake Paul and called both Pauls “fake fighters.” Not only that, Pretty Boy even stated  “I’m willing to fight both in the same night.”

These comments riled up the 11-1 boxer, and he grabbed Mayweather’s baseball cap from his head. The security had to intervene immediately as the 50-0 boxer started charging towards Paul. Jake Paul took the trolling to the next level as he posted himself getting a tattoo of “gotcha hat” on his leg.

This disrespect to one of the most adored boxers of all time did not sit well with the fans. And now after 3 years, when karma struck and a similar incident happened with Jake Paul, they were not going to sit idly.

A fan wrote, “Bro getting bullied by the crowd 😂💀,” stating how helpless Jake Paul was in front of the crowd. The Problem Child was arrogant in front of Mayweather, but when the same thing happened to him, he was not able to do anything.

Another user wrote, “I watched this fight illegally, and I still want my refund 😭,” implying that the quality of the fight was not up to the standards. Many fans switched towards illegal streams during the event, as Netflix streams were lagging and buffering quite frequently.

Another user who was not a big fan of The Problem Child wrote, “Shoutout to that man!” who threw away the cap. The disrespect shown by Paul to the legends is not well received at all amongst the boxing fandom and it has made El Gallo quite a hated figure.

Another user who was enjoying the incident wrote, “Bro went to get the hat… he’s basically playing Fetch,” stating that Paul should have said something to the person rather than quietly going and picking up the cap again.

Amidst the sea of criticism, there was one fan who acknowledged Jake Paul’s marketing skills and wrote, “dude really said canelo needs him for a payday😂 jake definitely knows how to get people talking about him.”

After his victory against Mike Tyson, El Gallo called out Canelo Alvarez and stated, “Canelo needs me. I’m not even gonna call him out. He knows he wants a payday and he knows where the money man’s at.” He implied that this victory has elevated him so much that even the “face of boxing” needs him now. After all, no one can pay Canelo more than MVP and Jake Paul.

Boxing legend Mike Tyson has released a first statement since his loss to Jake Paul in a Texas ring, going into detail about his recent health woes.

“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time,” Tyson wrote on X.

“I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won,” he wrote.

“To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you 🙏”

Fox News reported that Tyson suffered an ulcer last spring. At the time, Fox News reported that Tyson had “a medical scare, becoming nauseous and dizzy on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles.”

Paul, 27, was declared the victor against Tyson, 58, by unanimous vote of the judges after the November 15 fight. The fight was controversial because Tyson failed to connect many punches, and many users on social media described the battle as “boring” and “underwhelming.” NBA great Magic Johnson declared the fight “sad.”

Paul responded to Tyson’s statement in the comment thread, writing, “Love you Mike. It was an honor. You’re an inspiration to us all.”

The positivity came after a night of negative comments on social media after the production was plagued by streaming issues on Netflix, with many users reporting that the streaming video constantly buffered. In addition, Paul was mocked by some fans online who suggested that he should fight someone his own age and weight.

For his part, Paul responded to some comments by challenging UFC champion Conor McGregor to a match. Other fans praised Tyson even before his statement for having the guts to get in the ring at all at his age.

Tyson’s statement was met favorably on social media. X CEO Elon Musk was one of the first people to chime in, writing, “Bravo” in Tyson’s comment thread.

Tucker Carlson wrote on X, “Respect. To battle back from near death, step into the ring, and go toe-to-toe in front of your kids shows the true heart of a warrior. Winning isn’t always about the score—it’s about standing tall when life knocks you down. Bravo, champ.”

“What beautiful humility and grace. Well done, Mr. Tyson,” another user wrote.

“Brother you won. You are the goat always,” another page wrote.

“You’ve survived 100% of your worst days. That’s a reminder of how strong you truly are. 💪 #KeepFighting #InnerStrength,” another fan wrote.

“If you sent Jake back in time to fight 1988 Iron Mike, he wouldn’t have woken up until last night. Enjoy your life and your family, champ. You’re still the GOAT,” a fan wrote on X.

“You’re still the baddest man on the planet Mike. Glad my kids and I got to see you in the ring one more time. 🙏” a fan wrote.
