Mike Tyson says he almost died when he suffered an inflamed ulcer that forced him to pull out of his initial July 20 date for the Jake Paul fight.

Tyson will box Paul on November 15 in his first professional fight since his loss to Kevin McBride in 2005. But there were worries that it would not happen after Tyson’s ulcer flared up during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles. Tyson reportedly passed out, as the onlooking passengers were in horror. He was diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer that can lead to death. He recalled coughing up blood in the bathroom, as well as losing a significant amount of weight. Further struggles included not being able to eat as there were concerns that Tyson would never make the fight. At one point, Tyson admitted that he felt he could have died.

“I asked the doctor, ‘Am I going to die? He said, ‘We have options.’ Options? I couldn’t believe it. I lost 25 pounds in eleven days. I couldn’t eat. Only liquids. Every time I went to the bathroom, it smelled like tar. Didn’t even smell like it. It was disgusting. I had, like, eight blood transfusions. The doctor said I lost half my blood. I almost died. It threw me off. All my coordination, stamina, and everything else were hectic getting back. I was peaked already. I could have fought him that day. Now I got to start from scratch,” Tyson said

But Tyson is not the only one who could suffer in this fight. Paul will bulk up to over 200 pounds for this fight. He is used to fighting boxers moving up in weight, which gives him a significant advantage. He did this against Nate Diaz, beating him via a unanimous decision. Diaz is used to fighting at 170 pounds, but Paul boxes at cruiserweight. Paul also had the advantage over Mike Perry, whom he stopped in the sixth.

With that being said, there are concerns that the extra weight will slow him down and make him vulnerable. Paul has shown issues with stamina during some of his fights. The fight with Diaz showed that, as he allowed Nate to come back into the bout after initially sending him to the canvas. Paul’s strength and conditioning coach, Larry Wade, revealed the struggles The Problem Child had to go through. So questions remain if this will have an impact on the fight.

“Tyson and Perry are two different styles of fighters, two different styles of training. One where Mike Tyson fights two-minute rounds, and Mike Perry fights three-minute rounds, which is a different kind of conditioning. He had to go back, focus and do some things besides the fact that we had to lose a lot of weight to get there. It definitely required a team effort. I needed a break, so we took a month off, went back to work, and now we’re getting ready for Mike,” Wade added

There’s little more than two weeks until Mike Tyson takes on Jake Paul in Dallas on November 16.

So, you know what that means.

We’re about to get a huge influx of fake bravado and false statements to give both men the best chance to maximise their earnings.

If you were at the pub and saw a 20-something year old male punching on with a man approaching 60, who has resorted to using a walking cane in recent years, you’d be inclined to step in and stop what could very well be a serious assault.

The same risks exist when Tyson and Paul enter the ring for eight two-minute rounds with 14oz gloves in the middle of November, yet it seems nobody in any official capacity is willing to stop an event which could traumatise the world if it goes wrong.

The defining difference that distinguishes this scenario is that most people believe that Mike Tyson isn’t your average man reaching pensioner age.

Tyson recently shared a clip where he dropped a sparring partner and has also released short clips of training footage of him throwing monster combinations, leading some to theorise the 58-year-old’s endurance might be a problem.

While Tyson is the youngest man to ever hold the heavyweight championship at the age of 20, an older man with ulcer problems, who hasn’t fought a professional fight since 2005, will enter the ring in Dallas, Texas.

Yet that didn’t stop Paul from telling Nine’s Today, that a win against his almost elderly opponent will rocket him into boxing immortality.

“People think I’m this nice smiley social media content creator. I like to have fun but I’m a killer,” Paul said.

“This is what I was bred to do, this is my destiny.

“I will stop him and become the face of boxing. Whether people hate that or love it they’re going to have to accept it.

“I was born to do this and I will be world champion and I will go down in the boxing hall of fame as one of the greatest to ever do this.”

We warned you about false statements and fake bravado. Well, here’s another dose.

During the soon-to-be-released Countdown series for the fight, the former champion said: “If I win, I’ll be immortal… I don’t want to die in a hospital bed; I want to die in the ring.”

For some reason, Tyson sounds more believable than Paul, and that could be the most concerning part.

While there has been frequent talk of the age difference between the fighters, discourse about the potential dreadful consequences that could arise if a 27-year-old man mercilessly beats a 58-year-old has not been so common.

Can you imagine if boxing’s worst nightmare unfolds in front of a potential audience of 700 million viewers worldwide on Netflix?

That question wasn’t put to Paul, but we thought we’d throw in some more bravado to distract you from the daunting possibilities that could occur on November 16.

“Tyson is dropping people in sparring, he looks the best shape he’s been in, that’s what his coaches are saying,” Paul told Nine.

“I plan on outboxing him and showing the world what I’m capable of. It’s going to be a war.

“He’s one of the most famous boxers in the world to ever do it, he and Muhammad Ali, so to step in there with someone of his nature is an honour and a dream come true and it’s going to be a spectacle and one of the most entertaining nights the sport has ever seen.

“I was born to do this and I will be world champion.”

He added: “All of Australia tune in, I’m going to Kangaroo kick Mike Tyson in the face.”

Boxing has an uncanny knack of turning false statements into harsh truths.

Let’s hope that does not happen on November 16.

Mike Tyson has caused controversy, stating that he is prepared to die in the ring in the build-up to his fight against Jake Paul.

Tyson will box Paul next month on November 15 in his first professional fight since 2005. He retired after suffering a loss against Kevin McBride in 2005, bringing an end to his glittering professional career. Tyson is a former Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World, securing the title after beating Tony Tucker in 1987 by a unanimous decision. Since then, Tyson has had a small taste of the boxing ring. He had an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. The fight sold over a million PPVs, showing the huge demand that Tyson still commands. The bout ended in a draw, bringing the highly-publicized exhibition to an end.

Tyson will box Paul in an eight-round clash, which will divide the boxing community. Tyson is 58 years old, as he will take on a much younger Paul, who is 27. Mike has made several changes to his training regime to prepare himself. He has reportedly undergone hypnosis, banning weed and sex, as well as going on a raw meat diet, which is a change from his vegan lifestyle. He has also been seen sharing numerous training clips, the latest of which were of him knocking out his sparring partner.

While that has increased the hype for the fight, there are worries over whether Tyson can replicate that form in the ring. However, the following trailer for the fight shows that he is ready to do more. In the trailer, Tyson can be heard saying that he is willing to die if it means getting a win against Paul: “If I win, I’ll be immortal… I don’t want to die in a hospital bed; I want to die in the ring,” Tyson. Those comments understandably raised controversy, given the dangers that can happen when fighters box at a later age. Evander Holyfield showed in his 2021 comeback that Father Time catches up with everyone. He made a return against Victor Belfort. However, it was not successful.

Holyfield was hit with numerous combinations during the first round as he hit the canvas. The referee intervened to end the fight as Holyfield’s reaction times were no longer the same. There have also been examples in the past where boxes have suffered permanent damage in the ring. Gerald MccLellan is in a wheelchair, had a brain injury, lost some of his eyesight, 80 percent of his hearing, following his fight against Nigel Benn, something which the latter continues to have sad memories of.

And given that Tyson has already secured his legacy, there is a feeling that he does not need to risk this fight. He is also not in any financial trouble. Despite his prior bankruptcy struggles, Tyson has developed his own marijuana brand titled ‘Tyson 2.0.’ This continues to sell out across numerous states in the US. However, Tyson has shown that he is a competitive fighter, which will be very difficult to tame. Fans are worried about the consequences if Tyson suffers in the ring.

Mike Tyson has shared new sparring footage ahead of his forthcoming face-off with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul next month, but the clip has left some fans worried. With the fight just weeks away, both men are in the final stages of their training camps and are fine-tuning any extra details that may give them an edge on fight night.

The showdown between the two boxing stars is set to take place on November 15 at the AT&T Arena in Arlington, Texas. Many in the boxing community have expressed concern for Tyson’s health due to the significant age difference between the two fighters.

With Paul being 31 years younger than the boxing legend, most fans believe it’ll be a walk in the park for ‘The Problem Child’. These fears were amplified after ‘Iron Mike’ had to withdraw from the original match earlier this year due to an ulcer flare-up.

Tyson hasn’t fought a professional bout since 2005 when he was defeated by Irishman Kevin McBride. However, he did step into the ring four years ago for an exhibition match with fellow boxing legend Roy Jones Jr.

At the height of his career, the 58 year old was invincible and is now widely considered one of the greatest heavyweights in the history of the sport, reports the Mirror.

Paul has been quite vocal on social media in the lead up to his fight with Tyson, whose training regime for their November bout has largely remained a mystery. However, the 58 year old recently gave fans a glimpse into his preparations by sharing a video of himself in the gym on X – previously known as Twitter.

The clip shows him hitting a heavy bag and sparring, accompanied by a caption that reads: “Oh I can’t wait for November 15th. I’m charging right through you,” Despite this, some followers have expressed concerns about the post. One user commented: “I think I know why there are so many jump cuts. You are going to be gassed in 20 seconds.”

Another added: “I’m starting to think that dude’s in some serious trouble. Hope his insurance is paid up. All that money will buy a nice wheelchair.”

A third remarked: “We see these 10 second clips of furious power and speed …. It’s the 15mins of recovery afterwards we don’t see. Silly fight, with silly caveats in the contract to make it last but as well all know … money ru(i)ns this world now.”

A fourth observed: “I’ve yet to see 2 min of straight action lol.”

While some fans have expressed concerns over a recent video, others maintain hope for the upcoming heavyweight clash in November. One optimistic fan declared: “If anyone can turn back the clock one more time, it’s Mike,” Another supporter chimed in with encouragement, stating, “Let’s go champ. Iron Mike aging like fine wine. Show them what we missed all these years and deliver a knuckle sandwich knockout.”

A third fan added their enthusiasm: “Can’t wait either mate, I have not watched boxing since the early 90’s, going to watch this one for sure.”

Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson is shaping up to be quite the spectacle for Netflix.

The bout, due to take place on 15 November, is already getting a lot of interest and is sure to be a hit for the streaming platform.

Despite Tyson’s increasing age, he’s still a box office attraction.

Coupled with the following that Paul has, it’s going to be an event for sure.

The contest is set to be a money spinner for both men as they step in the ring and compete.

Questions are being asked around whether Tyson will be able to keep up with his much younger opponent.

With Jake Paul being 27, he has a 31 year advantage on his 58-year-old opponent.

Because of that, one of the requests from Mike Tyson’s team is that the rounds are 2 minutes instead of the more traditional 3 minutes.

That would seem to suit Tyson as it means he’ll be exerting energy over a shorter period of time.

But Jake Paul has had his say on the matter as he starts building promotional momentum leading up to the fight.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Paul criticises this request from Mike Tyson and says it’s going to make no difference to the eventual outcome.

“It’s interesting, I’m just, I’m just basing s*** off of facts. He’s like, “watch your shape, watch your shape”. I’m like, alright, but you watch it. It could be to his advantage. I think it’s also smart that he’s doing that. I’m fighting on all of his rules and what he wanted. He wanted it to be a pro fight. He wanted eight, two-minute rounds. So I’m giving him everything he wants. I’m going to his playground, and I’m going to beat his a**.”

From his comments, it’s quite clear that Jake Paul is confident in what he’s going to be able to do in the fight.

Of course, this matchup has not been without controversy.

Many commentators have criticised the clash due to the age difference between the competitors.

Towards the end of his professional career, ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson was taking some heavy losses and getting stopped early.

Jake Paul is still an impressive puncher and could do some damage.

At least the shorter rounds will mean less punishment potentially meted out in what is a glorified exhibition match.

Mike Tyson faces a potential ban from boxing if he fails a drug test after admitting he could smoke cannabis in the days leading up to his showdown with Jake Paul later this year.

The pair were set to go head-to-head earlier this summer, but ‘Iron Mike’ was forced to postpone his return to the ring after suffering from an inflamed ulcer. Tyson was forced to stop training on his doctor’s orders but has recently returned to the gym and insists he will be ready to walk to the ring later this year.

The clash between the two big stars is set to take place on Friday, November 15 in Arlington, Texas at the AT&T Stadium in front of up to 90,000 fans. Tyson’s last professional outing came in 2005 when he lost to Kevin McBride. His last bout took place in an exhibition against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr behind closed doors in 2020. As for Paul, the 27-year-old defeated former UFC fighter Mike Perry back in July in his last outing.

Tyson recently admitted he was struggling to walk after completing six rounds of sparring – further adding concern for his health ahead of the bout. The American recently admitted to being a ‘junkie’ and has previously confessed to smoking weed every day as well as micro-dosing magic mushrooms to help him recover between sessions before his last fight with Jones Jr. Tyson sensationally claimed that he was even high during the fight itself.

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, when Tyson was asked if he intends to be high during his bout with Paul, he replied: “I’m going to be so high off life, yeah.” Kimmel then asked: “Will you be high on marijuana, as well?” Tyson replied: “That’s a possibility, too.” The host then commented: “Oh no my bet is getting lower as we talk.”

While his interview was a cause for concern, it remains unclear how serious his statement was. That said, if Tyson does intend to smoke weed before his fight with ‘The Problem Child,’ then he could be banned by the Texas Commission as the drug is on the sanctioning body’s list of prohibited substances.

According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR): “If either combatant were to test positive for a banned substance, we would open a complaint, put them on a 90-day suspension and if the combatant were the winner, the decision would be changed to a no-decision because of a rules violation.”

Regardless of what he may or may not be taking, it’d appear that Tyson is clearly not taking the fight seriously after a staggering admission. During his chat with Kimmel, ‘Iron Mike’ claimed he was training six hours a day. “I am training extremely hard, I do six hours a day. I start at 11am and might leave the gym at 5pm,” he said. Kimmel looked stunned and replied: “Oh no. 11am? So that’s six hours straight, or is there a lunch break?” The former heavyweight champion admitted there was a small break as a shocked Kimmel gasped: “Oh no.”

There has been much bellyaching about the fight itself, but from all accounts, the Mike Tyson and Jake Paul fight is still a go.

However, there is a chance that the fight could be downgraded from a professional bout that’ll count on both fighters’ record, into an unofficial match — an exhibition — instead, according to a recent report by World Boxing News.

With Netflix, owner of over 270 million subscribers, airing the widely discussed fight, there’s plenty of incentive for all parties involved to put on the event despite a recent Tyson health issue that shifted the first scheduled date from July 20, to November 15. It’s being reported that both combatants will be thoroughly examined ahead of the fight to ensure everything goes according to plan.

Before ‘Iron Mike’ entered the ring in 2020 for the first time in 15 years to face fellow former world champion Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition match, he’d made it known that training was a thing of the past as it would spark his ego to hit the heavy bag.

After many battles with his fluctuating weight that he ultimately conquered, plus, finding content from within, Tyson made the decision to once again lace the gloves up and compete under the bright lights. Even in his 50s, the now humble boxer has stolen the internet’s attention with some flashes of excellence on the mitts:

Though the stocky fighter is built like a house, the recent health issue of a stomach ulcer earlier this summer set off red flags. It could have been connected to pushing his body a bit too hard in training, and high-ranking officials aren’t taking any chances when it comes to sanctioning this wild fight.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) will be leading the charge in terms of being diligent about whether this massive, cross-generational fight should be hosted as a professional fight to count on both competitors’ records, or as an exhibition bout. Nobody wants to see something horrific take place on live TV…

Back in May, Tyson had an ulcer flare up that was severe enough that he had to pull out of the fight. The TDLR will be making sure the former heavyweight champion is fit to compete. When speaking with the TDLR, World Boxing News discovered that they are aware of the public concerns over this controversial fight:

“TDLR is aware of media reports regarding an episode involving Mr. Tyson. At present, Mr. Tyson and Mr. Paul have met the medical requirements for this event, before the event, TDLR will conduct pre-fight physicals to ensure the health of both fighters.”

WBN reports that Tyson “has much to prove to convince organizers, including Netflix” that it should go ahead as a pro fight. “Tyson could face a rigorous health assessment, far more than the usual professional boxers undertake,” the news site added.

Downgrading the contest to exhibition status would unlikely take anything away from the attention and marketability of the event. As it stands, it still goes ahead, as a legitimate contest on each fighters’ record, when they trade blows November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

What will they do if Tyson isn’t ready again?

The most-hyped televised fight of 2024 is happening this fall, or at least that’s the plan right now. Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul is hitting Netflix’s upcoming lineup on its rescheduled date of November 15th, which isn’t far away, but what happens if Tyson has to back out, as it went when he had a medical emergency over the summer? It’s a question worth asking, and Paul was able to give a definitive answer on the current contingency plan, in a manner of speaking.

On the heels of Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi facing off in the live Unfinished Beef special, fans with Netflix subscriptions want to know what to expect for the next big showdown on the streamer if one of the fighters cannot perform. Jake Paul spoke to TMZ Sports about the current backup plan, and whether or not he’s concerned about Mike Tyson’s readiness, saying:

I don’t have concern. He’s doing great. He’s super healthy behind the scenes and feeling great. So, that’s what we’re focused on, and there’s not a backup [plan] currently.

Despite it happening on the original date, Netflix did not stream that replacement fight, and it didn’t take place in AT&T Stadium, the venue reserved for Tyson vs. Paul. Given that, and the fact that there still aren’t any backup plans this time around, it would seem like if these two fighters aren’t going to trade blows, Netflix still wouldn’t be interested in carrying any substitutions.

Thus far, Mike Tyson hasn’t given any reason to suspect he’ll be anything less than 100% come fight day. While he was reportedly dealing with complications from an ulcer when the fight was first postponed, he’s been pretty active as of late. In addition to uploading pictures from training, Tyson is attending many events, so he’s seemingly feeling well enough for this big bout come November.

While his age is a factor, Tyson has asked for certain accommodations made for this match to help compensate for fighting someone thirty years younger than him. The fight will have shorter rounds to encourage both fighters to push the pace, which could prevent Paul from hanging back early and hoping to tire the legend out before starting to fight. Even so, professional boxing matches can be taxing, and we won’t know how tired Tyson will or won’t be until we see this match.

All we know is that Mike Tyson feels confident he can win and that he was once one of the greatest boxers who ever lived. Whether his past experience will be enough to take on Jake Paul is the big question everyone has and one that some, like actor Russell Crowe, would rather not see answered. In any case, there’s no denying that the intrigue is still there to see how this all shakes out and if this fight will happen.

While Floyd Mayweather has solidified his place as one of the greatest boxers of all time, the last man to beat him has gone down a very different road.

At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, the pound-for-pound great, who was just 19 at the time, suffered a loss that left him both tearful, yet motivated to never feel that way again.

In his sensational career, the American utilized his polarizing personality to gain the interest of fans around the world. Whether people wanted him to win or lose, they tuned in either way, and it had an enormous impact on the boxer’s bank balance.

Throughout his stint as a professional fighter, very few men came close to beating Mayweather, with most missing the target wildly as the legendary athlete showcased his excellent shoulder roll.

While the likes of Oscar De La Hoya and Marcos Maidana did push him close, and some believe José Luis Castillo did enough to have claimed the victory in their first encounter, in the professional realm, no one can say they’ve stepped inside the ring with the icon and emerged with the decision.

But that’s not the same for the amateur game. Serafim Todorov of Bulgaria defeated the gifted athlete in a major upset in the semi-final of the Olympics, leaving the Michigan warrior with a bronze medal.

However, despite beating Mayweather, the underdog couldn’t cross the final hurdle, falling short against Somluck Kamsing of Thailand.

While ‘Money’ rebounded from the heartbreak, Todorov didn’t. He turned down an offer from a group of promoters in the USA in favor of attempting to represent Turkey at the 1997 World Amateur Boxing Championships, because he felt his home nation weren’t giving him the support he deserved.

Alas, the Bulgarian Boxing Federation wouldn’t let it happen, and the athlete retired from competition in 2003.

He eventually returned to the squared circle 12 years later, in 2015, at the age of 46, and beat Aleksandar Chukaleiski via unanimous decision.

Sadly, the same year, the New York Times published a piece, reporting that he was living on a pension of $435 per month.

At the time, he was residing with his wife, son, and daughter-in-law in a first-floor unit in Pazardzhik. He has worked as a driver for both a grocery store and a sausage factory.

Mike Tyson slams Floyd Mayweather for saying he’s better than Muhammad Ali

While Todorov never reached his optimum potential, his Olympic rival certainly did.

In an astounding run, Mayweather proved his skills beyond doubt, going down as arguably the greatest defensive fighter of all time, not just in the opinion of the public, but in his own eyes too.

He’s even gone as far as to say he was a better boxer than the legendary Muhammad Ali, which hasn’t gone down well with Mike Tyson.

In an angry rant, ‘Iron Mike’ slammed the former welterweight star, explaining why he’ll never be on his hero’s level.

A former sparring partner of Mike Tyson said he thinks the former world heavyweight champion will “pull his punches” during the upcoming fight with Jake Paul as he could “seriously hurt” the YouTuber.

Tyson is due to fight Paul on November 15 in Arlington, Texas in the first event of its kind to be live streamed on Netflix.

It was scheduled to go ahead in July but was postponed after Tyson sustained a health scare.

Everyone seems to have had their say on the fight, from Joe Rogan to former world super-middleweight champion Carl Froch and just about everyone in between.

But an insider claims that Tyson will “pull his punches” when the two finally meet in the ring.

“For me, it’s going to be a glorified sparring session,” Joe Egan, Tyson’s former sparring partner, said when speaking with TalkSPORT.

“When Mike boxed Roy Jones Jr he hit Roy with a body shot and sunk him and Mike knew he could hurt Roy Jones.

“Anybody that Mike hits is going to hurt, probably knockout as well but he carried Roy Jones.

“I never believed Mike Tyson could carry anybody because when I sparred him at Catskill, every punch he threw was with bad intentions. He was a vicious, ferocious, savage heavyweight.

“To see him mellow with age is wonderful and to see what he did with Roy Jones is incredible.

“Jake Paul was on that undercard and when he saw Mike pull his punches they probably felt confident. You’ve got to admire him for getting in the ring with Mike Tyson but I don’t think Mike will go full force on him.

“I don’t believe that because if Mike went full force on Jake Paul, he could seriously hurt him, never mind about the age.”
