Even though the negotiations are still pending, Terence Crawford and Sebastian Fundora have started their war off-court.

With the Canelo Alvarez fight still in the air for Crawford, the WBA and Interim WBO light middleweight champion decided to switch his attention to the WBO and WBC light middleweight champion, Fundora. The WBO, in late August, ordered a WBO title fight between Crawford and Fundora. Both sides were given a 30-day period to negotiate the fight, with a purse bid looming if they fail to reach an agreement by the deadline.

The minimum bid for this fight was set at $200,000, with Crawford expected to receive a favorable share due to his “Super Champion” status. Since the two parties have yet to reach a deal, a few days ago, the WBO gave them a 10-day extension to reach a deal. If the parties fail to strike a deal, the bout will go to a purse bid, with the fight potentially happening by the end of the year. But before that could even happen, the duo found themselves in a heated argument online, exchanging words, as neither of them wanted to appear as backing out.

Talksport editor Michael Benson took to X to reveal an excerpt of a conversation that Crawford had with YouTuber Bernie Tha Boxer regarding Sebastian Fundora. According to Bud, the much-awaited fight is still on the table for him. “That’s a fight on the table,” stated Crawford in a defensive tone. However, The Nebraska resident was aware of his struggle against Israil Madrimov and how lackluster he looked in that fight but warned the 6’6 boxer to not take that fight as a reference.

Crawford had a challenging outing against the former champion from Uzbekistan and it might have been his toughest fight in recent years. According to CompuBox stats, Madrimov’s defense was so solid that Bud threw 158 more punches than his opponent, but only connected with 11 more. And on the other hand, Madrimov threw 10 more power punches than Crawford.

After that, Terence Crawford brought up the rumored sparring session between Fundora and Madrimov to make a shocking claim. “If Fundora’s licking his chops over my performance vs Israil Madrimov, then I should be licking my chops because Madrimov knocked Fundora out in sparring. That’s what I heard,” stated Crawford. Despite the claim from Bud, there exists no confirmed report of the knockout.

So naturally, the Towering Inferno refused to take the disrespect lying down as he quickly shot back with a cryptic message on his Instagram story, sparking the feud even more.

The California resident took to his Instagram Story and replied with a few lines from Ed Sheeran’s Song, ‘Tenerife Sea’. Fundora noted, “We are surrounded by all of these lies And people that talk too much,” insinuating that the claims made by Crawford are “lies” and that Bud is now talking too much.

If the matchup between the two happens, it will be quite exciting to watch Bud Standing figure out an opponent of Fundora’s size and stature. Standing at 6’6 feet, he has an unreal reach and is a natural junior middleweight. It gives him a big power and size advantage over other opponents in the same division.

On the other hand, with a lean physique and normal height, while spending most of his career at 147lbs, it might prove too much for Crawford to figure out. So, fighting against Sebastian Fundora might be tricky for the 37-year-old. There is also the chance that once he takes the Fundora fight, he may have to kiss the Canelo fight goodbye for a while.

There has been a lot of speculation in regards to what happens next with Terence Crawford.

Canelo Alvarez refused to rule ‘Bud’ Crawford out for his next opponent.

In the meantime, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) mandated Sebastian Fundora as the next opponent.

Terence Crawford is the reigning WBO Interim Jr. Middleweight Champion.

Fundora, on the other hand, is the WBO Jr. Middleweight Champion.

The fight was to terminate the interim status and determine who would emerge as the king of the middleweight scene.

But now it seems that the wait will go on a little while longer.

The WBO have shared a press release today that explains what is going on.

On August 28, the WBO ordered the fight and gave both sides 30 days to strike a deal.

It’s notoriously difficult at times to get boxers to negotiate what the split will be on the revenue for each fighter.

That date would have run out on September 28.

However, according to the communications from the WBO, an email communication by Attorney Mr. Harrison Whitman, on behalf of Terrence Crawford, requested a 10 day extension of the negotiation period to continue discussion on the matter.

On the same day, Fundora’s promoter Mr. Sampson Lewkowicz agreed to the extension.

Therefore, there is now an additional 10 days for the two sides to come to an agreement.

The release is signed by the chairman of the WBO, Luis Batista Salas.

So it seems that both fighters need a little more time to work out the details for the fight.

With the 10 day extension now in place, the date for the fight will likely be available in just over a week’s time.

The WBO has called for Sebastian Fundora to defend his junior middleweight belt against Terence Crawford next.

The news means that both sides have 30 days to agree on a deal before purse bids are ordered. Fundora holds the WBO and WBC belts after having beaten Tim Tszyu. Fundora has been linked with the Errol Spence Jr. fight. However, there has been no confirmation from either side regarding the date. Meanwhile, Crawford became a four-weight world champion after beating Israil Madrimovto win the WBA belt in his first fight at 154.

While it was a unanimous decision, Eddie Hearn felt his fighter had been hard done by, suggesting it was a lot closer than the scorecards indicated. In his post-fight comments, Crawford called out Canelo Alvarez for a fight at 168.  Hearn clarified those comments, hinting that Crawford could retire if he does not secure the Canelo fight. But a bout with Tszyu takes Crawford a step closer to unifying, knowing a win only leaves him with the IBF belt to secure.

“[They have 30 days to] negotiate and reach an agreement for the above-referenced WBO Jr. Middleweight Mandatory Championship Contest. If an accord is not reached within the timeframe stated herein, a purse bid will be ordered per the WBO Regulations of World Championship Contests.

“The minimum acceptable bid in the WBO Jr. Middleweight Division is $200,000.00 (Two Hundred Thousand Dollars). Any of the parties involved may request a purse bid procedure at any time during the negotiation process,” WBO

Crawford must now weigh up whether he wants a legacy or a big payday. A Fundora fight offers Crawford a chance to become a three-weight undisputed champion following his feats at 140 and 147. That would set him apart from the other fighters, such as Oleksandr Usyk and Naoya Inoue, the only two other fighters to have joined him as undisputed in two weight divisions.

However, a Fundora fight does not offer a massive purse that Crawford could get by fighting Canelo or Jaron Ennis. At 37, Crawford is at the latter end of his career. Fundora’s promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, felt Crawford would only box his man if he could not get the Canelo fight.

That has left the ball in Canelo’s camp and the Saudis if they were willing to make a big offer. Canelo requested $200 million to fight David Benavidez. While Canelo will likely get less than that figure for a Crawford fight, it will still be a high number.

“I’m waiting on an offer now, and I’m certain one will not come until after the 14th. I’d like to find out right now if [Crawford’s] going to fight for the money or the titles. I believe he wants the money. [Crawford] will do everything he can to fight Canelo, and [his team] will not call me until after the fight,”  Lewkowicz said

“I’m not saying that fight can’t happen. That order doesn’t matter,” Alvarez stated
