SERENA Williams has revealed that she won’t step on the scales anymore.

The tennis icon, 43, retired from the sport after the 2022 U.S. Open.

Williams is widely regarded as the greatest female tennis player of all time, having won 23 majors in singles during her glittering career.

During her playing days, she spoke of body image expectations faced by women in sports.

And earlier this week, she revealed on X that she doesn’t even bother to weigh herself anymore.

“I can’t take anymore negativity and lies,” her post began.

“And that’s why I won’t get on scales anymore. . . Can you relate?”

Williams took a break from tennis in 2017 as she became a mom.

She gave birth to daughter Olympia, now seven, in September of that year.

The former world No1 later returned to the sport, reaching several more major finals as a mother.

Williams likes to use her social media platform to preach positivity among her followers.

Last month she wrote on X, “Before you go to bed tonight look yourself in the mirror and say ‘you are gorgeous. You are beautiful and you are loved’. Love ya.”

She later added, “The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another. . .”

In 2014, Williams discussed body image as a female athlete during an interview.

“When I was young I thought I should be built more like an athlete – long and lean – not with a womanly figure,” she told Fitness Magazine.

“Unless I’m eating really healthy, I feel that way almost every other week.

“I feel as if I can do better and be smaller, which I think is just a natural thing for women to feel.

“We’re taught that we have to look a certain way.”

Williams won the U.S Open six times during her playing days.

So it was fitting that the final event of her career was played at Flushing Meadows.

Having announced her upcoming retirement in Vogue, Williams defeated Danka Kovinic in round one on a packed, star-studded Arthur Ashe Stadium.

She then upset second seed Anett Kontaveit in round two, before falling to Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic in the final match of her storied career.

Serena Williams remains a beacon of inspiration, even two years after her retirement from tennis.

While her impressive achievements in the sport are well-known, it’s her candidness about personal struggles that resonates with many. From navigating motherhood to maintaining her fitness, she shares her journey with authenticity. Her Instagram posts often radiate positivity, showcasing her lifestyle and beauty brand, while she actively engages in a rigorous fitness regimen.

Serena Williams on why she embraced her postpartum stomach | Daily Mail Online

In August 2023, Serena welcomed her second daughter, Adira River Ohanian. Following this, she began documenting her postpartum weight loss journey on social media. This year, she delighted fans by fitting into clothes she had struggled with before pregnancy. In July, she celebrated slipping into a Valentino denim midi skirt after multiple attempts. By October, she showcased a floral wraparound dress that fit comfortably, demonstrating her progress and joy.

However, not everything has been smooth sailing. Earlier today, Serena expressed frustration over the weighing scale’s readings. In a post on X, she wrote, “I can’t take anymore negativity and lies. And that’s why I won’t get on scales anymore… Can you relate?”

Recently health concerns have also played a role in Serena’s life. Earlier in May, she discovered a benign branchial cyst in her neck that required removal. After surgery, she resumed sharing her fitness journey and adopted a vegan diet alongside her sister Venus Williams to address health issues. Veganism is believed to aid in weight loss due to its focus on plant-based foods and lower calorie density. But is that what Serena is suggesting with her post on X? Possibly no.

Serena’s husband Alexis Ohanian, on the other hand, has admitted to not taking his workouts seriously. He humorously confessed during the Athlos NYC event last month that he hasn’t run since “high school football” where it was actually a punishment. Ohanian, however, wants his daughters to be as fit as their mother.

At the Athlos NYC event in October, Alexis Ohanian showcased not just his passion for sports but also his dedication as a father. He reminisced about the fun he had with his daughter, Olympia, at this women-only track and field event, which he helped create. The 7-year-old was a constant presence, joining Ohanian during interviews and cheering from the stands. As he interacted with American Track and Field athlete Justin Gatlin, Ohanian humorously reflected on his own fitness levels and shared his hopes for his daughters.

When asked about his personal best in the 100m sprint, Ohanian responded with playful disbelief. “Are you kidding me? Did you see me walking in here? Big Fella doesn’t sprint. The only time I ran was high school football as a punishment,” he joked. He then expressed a desire to spare his daughters the embarrassment of watching him struggle on the track. “A 41-year-old out-of-shape dad sprinting 100m, no one wants that. I gotta think of the legacy I leave behind for my little girls,” he added, highlighting his commitment to being a positive role model.

Ohanian’s initiative to promote women’s sports began in April when he announced plans for Athlos and committed funding through his venture capital firm, Seven Seven Six. His self-deprecating humor reflects a common theme. He often critiques himself while celebrating his daughters’ potential. In September, a photo of their daughter running was shared on Instagram. When a fan pointed out that Olympia’s athleticism comes from her ‘mama,’ Ohanian expressed gratitude as he responded saying, ‘thankfully.’

While Serena Williams was as athletic as anyone on the Tour at her peak, she has also been more candid than ever with her weight loss journey post pregnancy.

Coco Gauff prevailed in a three-hour title match at the 2024 WTA Finals to claim her first trophy at the prestigious year-end event.

On Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the 20-year-old American edged Chinese Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen in the championship round.

The world No. 3 previously beat No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals and No. 2 Iga Swiatek in round-robin play this week.

With her 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(2) comeback victory, Gauff became the fourth American to win the WTA Finals before turning 21, joining Chris Evert (1973, 1975), Tacy Austin (1980) and Serena Williams (2001). Gauff is the youngest champion at the season finale since Maria Sharapova (17 in 2004) and the first American titlist since Williams won her fifth year-end trophy in 2014.

In the final, Gauff came back from a break down in the second set and twice recovered a break in the final frame, including stopping Zheng from serving out the match at 5-4.

“Just staying resilient, fighting for every point,” Gauff said in her post-match press conference. “I know I was like a couple points away from losing, but I just tried to stay in the moment, honestly, and I’m really proud of myself.”

The trophy is the third of Gauff’s 2024 season (Auckland, Beijing) and the ninth of her young career. Her Riyadh run also secured her the year-end world No. 3 ranking for the second straight season; she reached a career-high of No. 2 this June.

Now a perfect 8-0 in hard-court finals at tour-level, including her title-clinching comeback against Sabalenka at the 2023 US Open, Gauff is 9-1 overall in title matches. Her reaction after match point showed just how much this one meant to her.

“At the end of the match, when I, like, fell on the floor, I didn’t think I was going to do that,” Gauff said.

“I kind of made a promise to myself that I will only save that for Grand Slams. But honestly, to the way the match went, I was like, ‘I’m just tired. I just want to lay on the ground.'”

Her hard work was handsomely rewarded with $4.8 million in prize money, more than doubling her previous winnings from the 2024 season. The payout is the largest in WTA Tour history.

Townsend finishes doubles runner-up

The doubles championship at the 2024 WTA Finals was a rematch of this year’s Wimbledon final. American Taylor Townsend and Czech Katerina Siniakova beat Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe in the London matchup but were beaten, 7-5, 6-3, on Saturday in Riyadh.

Townsend and Siniakova were a perfect 4-0 this week en route to the final, winning two match tiebreaks in round-robin play. The eighth seeds also won a second-set tiebreak against Chan Hao-Ching and Veronika Kudermetova in the semifinals.

Siniakova, the WTA’s doubles year-end No. 1, won five titles with five different partners this season—including with Gauff at Rolad Garros.

Serena Williams is planning to tackle a new challenge after going on an “intense” weight loss journey.

The retired tennis legend shared her progress while putting on a dress that previously didn’t fit her.

Williams is now keen to keep it going with some new goals she wants to achieve.

Since retiring from professional tennis in 2022, Williams has been busy. She gave birth to her second child, Adira, and has been working on her businesses, launching a makeup brand this year.

And the 23-time Grand Slam champion now has something else occupying her – a weight loss journey. Williams took to TikTok to celebrate her progress as she tried on a wrap dress.

@serena

I have been on an intense weight, loss journey, and working out like crazy. I wakeup at five to get to the gym and it’s finally starting to pay off. Life is a journey so is weight loss, not a destination. If you’re on the same journey, I’m wishing you well. ffypfforyourpagemmomsserenawilliamsmmomsoftiktokw#weightloss

“So I used to not be able to fit this dress at all, like I literally couldn’t even close it,” she said.

“It would come like here and I physically couldn’t close it. So now, not only can I close it, it almost comes too far over. So I’m really excited.”

Explaining how she managed to drop the weight, the former world No. 1 revealed that she’d gotten into running. And she’s now keen to tick some milestone distances off her list.

Williams continued: “I’ve been training a lot. I’ve been running. I’m training for a 5k, then I’m going to do a 10k and then I want to do a half-marathon.

“So it’s really paying off and I really like this dress just for a cosy day at home, right? So fun.”

And the 43-year-old had an inspiring message for her followers. She added: “So keep going, if you’re working out, you can do it too. If I can do it, you can do it, you’re way better than me.”

In the caption, Williams also wrote: “I have been on an intense weight, loss journey, and working out like crazy.

“I wakeup at five to get to the gym and it’s finally starting to pay off. Life is a journey so is weight loss, not a destination. If you’re on the same journey, I’m wishing you well.”

The tennis icon’s progress is especially impressive given that she’s recently gone under the knife. Williams took to social media to announce that she had surgery to remove a cyst the “size of a grapefruit”.

The American found a mass on her neck in May and originally chose not to get it removed but it continued to grow. “I decided to get more test and 3 test and one biopsy later everything is still negative but doctors advised I get it removed asap because it was the size of a small grapefruit and it could get infected or worse leak,” she explained.

As the world knows, Serena is more than a record-smashing, boundary-breaking tennis champion. Her achievements, on and off the court, make her one of the most recognizable names and faces in the world – the G.O.A.T.

Serena Williams Date-Night-In Ideas.

Homemade Dinner (Or Dessert)

I think shared experiences really connect people, especially when there’s food involved. Date-night-in is the perfect time to try out a new recipe. If it turns out well, you’ve got a delicious home-cooked meal to eat together. If not, well, at least you spent some time making something together. And if cooking’s not your thing, you can always make dessert instead – whether it’s baking (my favorite, of course) or making another type of treat (chocolate truffles, anyone?), it’s a sweet way to hang out with someone you love.

Game Night

By game night, I really mean any type of game you like to play – board games, card games, video games, puzzles, charades, etc. In my case, not surprising to anyone who knows me, it would have to be karaoke and dancing. I’m pretty serious about my karaoke but it helps that, unlike other kinds of games, I usually don’t get too competitive about it so it’s more fun for the people I’m singing with.

Note that I said “usually,” but I can’t make any guarantees. Playing a game together usually leads to laughing, and laughing together is one of the best things. As adults, we really don’t have many opportunities to enjoy each other’s company in that purely fun way, so it’s great to make it a date-night-in activity.

Netflix and…Popcorn

There are so many great shows and movies available out there, but with full-time jobs, kids, pets, multiple side hustles (you get the picture), Alexis and I usually just don’t have time to sit down together and watch something that we want to watch. If anything these days, we’re watching a lot of what my mini-me wants to watch! I’m not complaining, though, because you know I love my Disney, but sometimes it’s good to balance it out with some grown-up content.

Marvel movies and anything fashion-related are my jam. If I’m in a good mood, I might let Alexis pick what we watch…but only if he brings the popcorn. Because you just gotta have popcorn with a movie!

WTA legend Serena Williams was the centre of some controversy following her remarks about a college football player who shares her last name, leading fans to ponder if she was related to the athlete.

Ryan Williams, a 17-year-old wide receiver for the Alabama Crimson Tide, went viral over the weekend after scoring a sensational 75-yard touchdown in their victory over the Georgia Bulldogs. ESPN’s Sportscenter would upload a clip of the play to their official social media account, prompting several fans and celebrities to comment on the play.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion was one of the millions who viewed the clip, and proceeded to compliment the young man in a fashion that suggested familial ties.

“Honestly this is pretty impressive from my 17year old cousin ha go Cuz!'” wrote Williams after sharing the clip on social media.
Several of Williams’s fans were left confused at the statement, with many not catching on that the former World No.1 was in fact joking.
“Wait what?!?” wrote an incredulous user.
“THAT’S YOUR COUSIN?!?!?! So your whole bloodline are exceptional athletes,” said another.
“Ain’t heard her endorse this man or say a peep ever before this,” wrote another suspicious user.
“cousin cousin or Cousin Cousin,” asked another fan.
However, others were quick to catch onto the joke.
“Ha, everyone knows y’all not related. But ok funny,” wrote a more observant fan.
“Lord help us all with how many think she is being serious here,” expressed another fan.

Serena Williams has shared her thoughts on whether Coco Gauff should make changes to her forehand and serve as the American exited the 2024 US Open.

The tennis icon thinks the Gauff serve “can obviously be better”, but argued her compatriot does not need to adjust her forehand as she highlighted “confidence” as the key.

Gauff’s US Open title defence came to an end with a 3-6, 6-4, 3-6 loss to world No 12 Emma Navarro in the fourth round at Flushing Meadows.

The 20-year-old star was hamstrung by serving issues in the match as she made only 46% of her first serves and hit 19 double faults.

The American’s forehand, meanwhile, is a shot some analysts have identified as a weakness she must improve throughout her career to date.

During the world No 3’s defeat to Navarro, Williams was asked if Gauff needs to make any technical changes to her serve or forehand.

“I feel like she has a good serve,” the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion told ESPN. “I think that it can obviously be better, but I feel like she’s so young. She has the rest of her career to just improve.

“I wouldn’t change anything on her forehand. I’ve seen a lot of interesting forehands. And listen, if you’re just confident in whatever you have, keep it up, and just be confident about it.

“That’s literally all she needs to do is just have confidence, whether she’s hitting it with her wrist or elbow. Just have confidence doing it.”

Iga Swiatek detailed the conversation she had with Serena Williams during the US Open.

The world No. 1 was dazzled by her encounter with the 23-time Grand Slam champion and admitted that it gave her a ‘positive boost’ before the third round.
The Polish player secured a comfortable victory over Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, winning 6-4, 6-2. Just before the match, the 23-year-old had a prolonged chat with Williams: “It was really nice to see her. She has a lot of positive energy,” commented Iga Swiatek.

“It is nice that she came on-site and she was chatting with the players because for me, even though we met before and for like a couple of years we have been on the same side and on the tours together, she is still like star-striking me,” she added, smiling. “It was nice that she approached me because I wouldn’t for sure find the courage to do that (smiling) if it was the other way. Yeah, she is really nice and really positive.”
“I’m happy that she is following tennis and likes my game because she told me she is cheering for me. It’s always nice to hear that from somebody like Serena,” added the 5-time Grand Slam champion. “She approached me, like, at 4:00, you know, today. It was before my warm-up. I would say it more inspired me and it gave me, like, a positive kick, so it was nice.”
Additionally, Swiatek was asked to compare the current level of tennis with that of two decades ago, but she acknowledged that it is difficult for her to draw conclusions: “It’s hard for me to judge the level I have because I am constantly looking at myself and other players, so it’s not easy to say if we are playing at our best level or at a higher level than five years ago,” she said.
“Surely we are playing better tennis than 20 years ago because our physical condition has improved, among other things. I’m not an expert, I haven’t watched many past matches, but it’s clear that you need to improve to move forward,” Swiatek added. “Becoming world No. 1 happened suddenly for me; I admit that at first, my opponents didn’t know what to expect from my game.”
“2023 was a challenge because I had a big target on my back; my rivals already knew my style, so that’s when you need to learn and have more variety on the court, you can’t keep playing the same tennis because people will figure it out, and it will be harder to win.”
“I don’t know if tennis is improving overall, but you need to enhance your game because here everyone analyzes you, and they will end up focusing on you to beat you.”
