Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian revealed he recently underwent surgery to remove ‘suspicious nodules’ in his thyroid that were likely to become cancerous.

The 41-year-old Reddit co-founder shared the news on Instagram this Thanksgiving, posting a hospital photo alongside adorable snapshots of 7-year-old daughter Olympia and 15-month daughter Adira, whom he shares with the tennis superstar.

‘After tracking some suspicious nodules on my thyroid for the last 4 years, I recently had half of it surgically removed,’ Ohanian explained.

‘The nodules were getting bigger, and the latest biopsy showed they were very likely to turn cancerous. My mom had breast cancer around this age (41), and then ultimately passed away from brain cancer a decade or so later. I hate cancer.’

He went on to express his gratitude, noting that the surgery went smoothly.

‘I wasn’t gonna take any chances. I’m extra grateful this Thanksgiving because I got the call this morning confirming that the half of my thyroid that was removed was indeed full of some gnarly nodules that were very likely to become cancerous.’

While he joked about missing his usual lifting routine for two weeks, Ohanian shared an optimistic update.

‘The worst part, to be honest, has been not being able to lift for 2 weeks. But big fella will be back at it next week. Took my girls to Disney World this week, so life is wonderful.’

He ended his post with a reminder to other men: ‘To my fellow dads — make those doctor’s appointments. Especially if y’all are dads. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.’

In July, Ohanian says he has received a diagnosis of Lyme disease, which came as a bit of a shock to him.

He explained his health situation in a series of posts on X/Twitter Tuesday, saying that doctors told him about the diagnosis after he underwent multiple medical procedures.

‘Doing a full battery of health scans, tests, etc, and found out I have lyme disease,’ said the tech entrepreneur, who is father to two children with the tennis icon. ‘Wild. No symptoms, thankfully, but gonna treat.’

Ohanian explained some of the intricate details behind his diagnosis: ‘Good cholesterol is too low. Bad cholesterol is just OK. Gotta work on that. On the plus-side: 822 ng/dL total + 162 ng/dL free testosterone.’

Ohanian said that while he has a family history linked to the ailment, he was caught off-guard by the diagnosis since he did not fall into the group that is typically exposed to the condition geographically.

‘I’ve got a loved one who had it a few years back, showed tons symptoms etc and just couldn’t figure it out until they tested him for it and then found it (treated it successfully, too),’ Ohanian said. ‘I spend so little time in the wilderness/northeast this was quite a surprise.’

Ohanian said he was ‘gonna grab some antibiotics’ to combat the ailment, adding, ‘Can’t keep me down, tick!’ with a picture of The Tick cartoon character.

Ohanian stressed to his 563,700 followers on the platform that he was in no way dispensing health advice to the masses in regard to Lyme disease: ‘Please talk to a doctor!’ he said. ‘Do not listen to me for any health advice!’

The Mayo Clinic describes Lyme disease as ‘an illness caused by borrelia bacteria,’ adding that ‘humans usually get Lyme disease from the bite of a tick carrying the bacteria.’

The clinic noted that while ‘ticks that can carry borrelia bacteria live throughout most of the United States,’ the ailment ‘is most common in the upper Midwest and the northeastern and mid-Atlantic states’ domestically, and ‘also common in Europe and in south central and southeastern Canada.’

People are at higher risk if they ‘spend time where the ticks live, such as grassy, brushy or wooded areas,’ and the best means of prevention ‘is to avoid tick bites when you are outdoors.’

The CDC said that ‘476,000 people may be diagnosed and treated for Lyme disease each year in the United States,’ adding that the total consists of people who are ‘treated based on clinical suspicion but do not actually have Lyme disease.’

The governmental agency said that most cases ‘can be treated with 10-14 days of antibiotics,’ and that doing so in the ‘early stages’ of the disease leads to a rapid and complete recovery.

The disease has been a controversial topic at times, with a January 2023 report from the American Medical Association stating that ‘a lack of evidence-based guidance for how to care for people experiencing persistent symptoms and growing misinformation makes treatment challenging.’

Ohanian is one of a number of prominent names who have publicly emerged about their health battles with Lyme disease.

Others include Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Yolanda Hadid and her daughter, model Bella Hadid, both of whom have been outspoken about their respective battles with the ailment.

Bella last year said that she had undergone 100 days of treatment amid a battle with the condition that stretched nearly 15 years.

Musical artist Justin Bieber in January of 2020 said that doctors had diagnosed him with Lyme disease after being at the receiving end of nasty remarks about his appearance.

‘While a lot of people kept saying Justin Bieber looks like s***, on meth etc. they failed to realize I’ve been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my, skin, brain function, energy, and overall health,’ the Grammy-winning artist said on Instagram.

Actor Ben Stiller told The Hollywood Reporter in 2011 that he’d been diagnosed with the ailment in 2010.

‘I got it in Nantucket, Massachusetts, a couple of years ago,’ Stiller told the outlet. ‘My knee became inflamed and they couldn’t figure out what it was, then they found out it was Lyme. I’m symptom-free now, but Lyme doesn’t ever leave your system. It’s a really tough thing.’

Serena Williams wasn’t sure she could love her second child as much as her first.

The 43-year-old tennis legend has Olympia, seven, as well as 15-month-old Adira with her husband Alexis Ohanian and admitted that she was unsure how she would feel about her youngest while she was pregnant but has found that her “heart just got bigger” as she went further on into motherhood.

She told People: “Olympia was a solo child. She was our star. And I am so obsessed with Olympia. Even when I was pregnant, I was like, ‘How do I even love anyone as much as Olympia? It just doesn’t work.’

“It’s so funny how, I don’t know, just your heart gets bigger. I was just like, my heart just got bigger.”

Serena also admitted that whilst her eldest is a “hard act to follow”, her youngest seems to be managing well and has become such a “tough little cookie” even at her early stage in life.

She said: “Olympia is a very hard act to follow, but I tell you what, Adira has followed it and it’s just so crazy. She’s amazing. I just can’t wait for people to see how amazing she is in her own way. And she’s so special and she’s so tough. She’s just a tough little cookie. And she reminds me a lot of me in that aspect.”

Serena previously admitted that there was “a lot of pressure” on her from her eldest while she was pregnant, who was hoping to end up with a little sister.

Asked about the adjustment of going from one child to two, Serena she told Extra: “My baby kept saying, she’s like, ‘I want a sister! I want a sister!’ So, that was also a lot of pressure – is it gonna be a girl or a boy, you know? But no, I always wanted a family, a big family, but we’ll see.”

Comment: The former world No 1 retired last week, but was subjected to questions about her weight at the Laureus Awards in Madrid, Molly McElwee examines Spain’s ongoing issue surrounding sexism in sport

ormer world No 1 Garbine Muguruza is Spain’s best female tennis player of the last decade. So when she retired earlier this month, aged just 30, she faced all the queries you might expect: why now? What will you miss about tennis? What will you do next?

One question though, she was not anticipating. On the red carpet, at the Laureus Awards in Madrid last week, Muguruza faced a throng of journalists and one piped up: “[People] were saying they can tell you’ve stopped training, especially on social media, people were attacking you harshly because of the shape you are in…”

Muguruza’s eyes widened momentarily, as she was clearly taken aback. Then, she laughed. What else was she meant to do with that kind of question, four microphones and as many cameras thrust in her face?

Muguruza might have thought the days of answering questions about her body were over, considering she has no intention of playing professional tennis again. There is also the more obvious point: that it is frankly no one’s business.

On a red carpet, with dozens of paparazzi, journalists and people brandishing smartphone cameras to track her every move, the very last thing she might want to be reminded of are social media trolls. Namely those that have decided she no longer fits the impossible beauty standards set for women – let alone those expected for an elite female athlete.

But still she managed this ludicrous question with incredible poise. “Well, if I don’t train what’s going to happen?” Muguruza said, forcing another serene smile. “I want to live life, enjoy life. A training regimen is extremely hard, so when you can live life more and relax, you want to enjoy it. The physique of an Olympic athlete, we all know…” she let out another laugh. “Let’s be clear – the important thing is to stay healthy and enjoy life.”

The clip of Muguruza’s response has gained traction across Spain and created widespread debate. She has been praised for how she dealt with the situation by some, and rightly so. But she should not have been put in it in the first place.

Spain’s sports culture has been placed under the microscope in recent months, with sexism and inequality top of the agenda. It began with the former chief of the Spanish football federation Luis Rubiales planting an unsolicited kiss on striker Jenni Hermoso’s mouth during the World Cup trophy ceremony last August.

Rubiales’s actions tarnished Spain’s historic winning moment and sparked huge backlash. Some of the women’s team boycotted matches, he was forced to resign and Hermoso testified that the kiss was not consensual. Even Spain’s Equality Minister Irene Montero described a normalization of sexist behaviour in Spanish society.

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian’s love story perfectly showcases the saying, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

That’s exactly the case with their relationship that began with a playful twist. The WTA legend took the lead in steering their romance forward, although she humorously denied it later. Her determined husband picked on her, teasing his wife in a light-hearted way that only showcased how charming they were as a couple.

Ohanian took a funny dig at his wife, Serena Williams’ hilarious response to who first dropped the “L” word in their relationship. Their love story began in Rome in 2015 when Williams sat at a poolside table for breakfast in the Cavalieri Hotel and noticed the Reddit co-founder nearby. “That big guy comes and he just plops down at the table next to us,” the WTA legend recalled. “I’m like, ‘Huh, all these tables and he is sitting here?’” This unexpected encounter transformed into a romance that led Ohanian to propose to Williams in December 2016 at the same hotel. Now, reflecting on their relationship, Williams’ husband said, “I felt like a door had been opened to a person who made me want to be my best self. I find myself just wanting to be better by simply being around her because of the standard she holds.

Recently, the couple revisited their “L-word” debate during a glucose monitoring session with Lingo biosensors. Asked who said it first, Williams cheekily wrote her husband’s name, while he pointed to her. “Come on now, you going to lie on this?” Ohanian teased, calling his wife out. Unfazed, Williams smiled, “I said I will be honest.” Ohanian firmly responded, “That’s not the honest answer. I still remember that phone call. You know I felt the same way, but you definitely said it first.” Williams, offering a humorous twist, confirmed, “My glucose was high.” Ohanian then corrected her with a grin, “Tequila,”. However, the former player still continued, “I had some gelato. My glucose was too high, next thing I know I’m calling this guy and I’m like saying things I wouldn’t normally say, ‘I love you…’” Ohanian later shared the moment on IG with the caption: “The big question… tries to get away with saying I’m the one who dropped the L-word first, but we all know the truth… high glucose or not.” The post garnered over 5,000 likes within two hours, with Ohanian’s followers praising him as a loving husband and father.

his playful exchange between Serena Williams and her husband highlighted their sense of humor and also revealed how Williams made the first move twice—first in Rome and later on their first date—showing how Ohanian’s charm swept her off her feet both times.

After their serendipitous meeting in Rome, Williams and Ohanian’s connection deepened, transforming in another bold move—this time again by Williams. While attending the Roland Garros, the former WTA world number one invited Ohanian to meet her in Paris. Despite being impressed by the gesture, the Reddit co-founder approached his Paris trip with low expectations. In an interview with Vanity Fair, he revealed his true feelings: “Even if she blows me off and we don’t even hang out, I’m still going to have an amazing time in Paris, and I’ll have an even better story for all my childhood friends. I’d tell them, ‘Yeah, I went to Paris for a weekend. I was supposed to meet up with Serena Williams, she blew me off, but I’ve got other friends there, and we had a great time.’” Fortunately, Ohanian’s fears didn’t turn into reality. the WTA legend met him, and the couple spent six memorable hours strolling the streets of the City of Love.

Despite Williams’ refusal to admit the truth, her reaction toward Ohanian shows how much she admires and loves her husband. Their marriage recently completed seven years showing how a light-hearted bond that started with fun transformed into a healthy relationship and now inspires generations about family.

Alexis Ohanian, husband of WTA legend Serena Williams, took to social media to post a rather puzzling message which he claims originated from their seven-year old daughter, Olympia.

The co-founder of Reddit and Williams began dating in 2015 before tying the know in November 2017, two months after the birth of Olympia. The couple welcomed their second daughter, Adira in 2023, less than a year after Williams retired at the 2022 US Open.
Ohanian often posts pictures and video clips of himself and his family on social media, and the 41-year old stayed true to form in one of his latest messages. However, his most recent tweet consisted of random numbers and letters, followed by a caption stating his oldest daughter, Olympia, asked him to post the message.
“mn,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,nmnmnmnmi88u45d7s8ei5iksuxocik. Olympia told me to tweet this,” wrote Ohanian.

Despite being just seven years old, Olympia is the youngest owner in professional sport due to her being a part owner in women’s soccer club, Angel City FC. In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Ohanian stated his daughter had no idea she was the youngest owner in sports.
“Right now all Olympia knows is that Angel City FC is our team, and she loves cheering for them,” said Ohanian. “I think as she gets older, maybe she’ll come to see the different layers to it. Obviously, being the youngest owner of pro sports is pretty fun, but she doesn’t actually understand that she is the youngest owner in pro sports. Try to keep that for as long as we can.”

Serena Williams is embracing life after tennis with a renewed focus on health and fitness.

The 43-year-old retired tennis champion, now a mother of two, told People magazine she wants to run a half-marathon by the end of 2025.“I’ve gotten obsessed, more obsessed with diet and exercise,” Serena shared.

Though she retired from professional tennis two years ago, Serena admits she still misses the sport “like crazy.” Yet, her competitive spirit remains strong, motivating her to take on new challenges.

“I’m trying to compete – not compete, rephrase – trying to do a half-marathon. That’s my new goal. So it’s just like I have to do something competitive,” she says.

Although she still enjoys comfort meals such as roast chicken and fries or spicy ramen noodles with her husband, Alexis Ohanian (41), and daughters, Olympia (7) and Adira (1), she keeps this for special treats and tries to be mindful about what she eats.

“I’m all about a healthy lifestyle,” Serena says.

Despite no longer competing professionally, Serena remains focused on maintaining her fitness.

“The more I don’t play sports professionally the more I think, ‘Okay, this is what I’ve done for literally my entire life and how do I optimise and keep it up?’” she says.

Beyond fitness Serena has also been active in business for the past 14 years, having invested in 85 companies, including a venture capital fund she founded in 2017. Impressively, 14 of these companies have achieved “unicorn” status, meaning they are each worth over $1 billion.

One of her investments includes MasterClass, an educational subscription platform.

“I remember finding that company with like eight people in a small room in a garage in San Francisco, and I just fell in love with what they were doing and what they were building,” she recalls.

While Serena has retired from tennis, her elder sister Venus (44) is still going strong.

Last month, after 30 years on the circuit and seven Grand Slam titles, Venus said she had no intention of retiring.

“I’m not done with the racket yet,” she said. “At this point it’s about picking and choosing places I want to be.”

“It’s nice to be in a place where I can pick and choose, but my game is always at a high level. Even if I’m not on tour I always keep my game quite high.”

She also revealed that people often make the mistake of assuming she’s also gone into retirement.

“Serena ruined it for me. Because as soon as she retired, everybody thought I retired,” Venus quipped.

Jannik Sinner has equaled Serena Williams and Roger Federer as the only professional tennis players in history to at least win a set in every match played during the same year.

Roger achieved this in 2005, winning 81 matches and losing only four against Marat Safin, Richard Gasquet, Rafa Nadal, and David Nalbandian, but in all of them, he took at least one set. Sinner has matched this record, having lost just six matches in a season where he won 72. In all his defeats, he also won at least one set, losing three times to Carlos Alcaraz and in matches against Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev, and Daniil Medvedev.

For Serena, this record was set in 2013 with a victory balance of 78.4, winning a set against Victoria Azarenka in two losses, against Sabine Lisicki and Sloane Stephens.

Undoubtedly, another impressive achievement by Jannik that places him among the best players due to his spectacular performances in all tournaments, regardless of the playing surface.

Former world number one Serena Williams has opened up about difficulties after retiring from sports.

The 43-year-old is often regarded as one of the greatest player in the history of women’s tennis in the singles category.
Serena retired from the sport in 2022 to focus more on her family life. Since then, the former world number one has remained active in social activities. She has also been very active in the fashion industry during the last two years.
Serena has been recently quoted in a report, in which she talked about how difficult her life has been since retiring from professional tennis.

The Michigan-born star was of the opinion that ever since leaving the sport, she has become more obsessed with diet and exercise to ensure that she maintains her fitness.
“I’ve gotten obsessed, more obsessed with diet and exercise, I think, than when I was playing tennis,” she said while talking to People Magazine as quoted by The Tennis Gazette. “I knew that I was going to burn 20,000 calories a day, and now I’m like, ‘Oh my god, I don’t know how many calories I’m going to be able to burn!’ Look at me. I’m trying to compete — not compete, rephrase — trying to do a half-marathon. That’s my new goal. So it’s just like I have to do something competitive. I miss tennis like crazy.”
Serena ended her career with 22 Grand Slam titles which is the most by any women’s player in the history of tennis in the singles category in the Open era. Overall, she finished her career with 73 titles. Her most impressive competitions was the Australian Open and the Wimbledon where she lifted the title seven times each. Her last Grand Slam was the Australian Open in 2017 where she defeated her sister Venus in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4.

Just two days before the 2017 Australian Open, Serena Williams rang her husband Alexis Ohanian to immediately fly out to Melbourne.

What was waiting on the other side? Six positive pregnancy tests inside a paper bag. With her head determined to swat every opponent out competing for the next eight weeks, her body was seemingly divorced. As Serena would put it, it had “already switched allegiances.” Suddenly, winning was no longer a need; it was a desire. Success, titles, and the checks that come with it were no longer the only reason for waking up in the morning.

Serena won the singles title at the 2017 Australian Open winning the first seven matches, all in straight sets, leading up to the finals. And it came with a hoard of new experiences in her body that she wasn’t accustomed to. Up until this point, she knew of knee busts, ankle rolls, playing with a taped-up Achilles heel, and spasms. But this — metallic taste in the mouth, incomprehensible reasons for “strange” fatigue between points — was going to shift the stakes of the game for Serena forever.

READ: Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian faces shocking health struggles

Seven years have passed since, and seldom do athletes get into a sedentary lifestyle even after retirement. And that’s exactly what happened to her. “The more that I don’t play sports professionally, the more that I think, ‘Okay, this is what I’ve done for literally my entire life, and how do I optimize and keep it up?’”

And there’s another reason. She has two young children: Olympia, 7, and Adira, 1. Setting a good example is one, but staying fit for her kids was a priority for her naturally. And though there may have been a time she thought she was a super-human, she knows that isn’t the case. Add to this the fact that she has suffered through knee injuries, pulmonary embolism, shoulder issues, etc. throughout her tennis career, one can relate to her thought process. In a new interview with PEOPLE (Thursday), it was a show of humility on the part of Serena and that her life in a day is just as similar as the next person,

“Athletes and musicians, I feel like sometimes we think that we’re untouchable and that’s just not true. I literally don’t think of myself any different than anyone else. And I love to try to post relatable content. And I’m not doing it on purpose, it’s just who I am.

“I have the same struggles trying to fit in these darn skirts and I want to follow my health levels too. And I just think it’s so cool for people to see that, especially for me growing up in Compton.

“It’s just like if there’s anyone else watching, know that. Knowing that I’m not any different from you. I’m literally the same. And probably, if anything, you’re probably smarter and better than I am. And that’s kind of what I always like to preach or show,” Serena said, showing her humble side. Yes, this is despite her $300 million net worth.

Over the years, Williams has garnered a huge sum in prize money and sponsorships. Additionally, her business ventures have been flourishing and her net worth has surged. And while Williams is also the undisputed GOAT of women’s tennis, winning 23 Grand Slam titles over her illustrious career, her fellow players have always been amazed by her humble nature. Canadian star Bianca Andreescu once made a candid revelation about Serena’s nature.

When Bianca Andreescu was impressed by Serena Williams’ humble gesture

Back in 2019, Andreescu won her only Grand Slam title when she defeated Serena Williams in the summit clash of the US Open. It was one of the tournament’s major upsets, as all the odds were pinned in favor of Williams. However, Andreescu produced a stunning display to defeat the American legend in straight sets, 6-3 7-5. Despite Williams falling in the final hurdle, she made a wonderful gesture toward Andreescu.

Speaking about the encounter, Andreescu once said, “She’s a very nice person. After the final at the US Open, she came up to me in the locker room and she said really nice things about me, and I said really nice things about her as well… even though she’s heard it so many times. But yeah. It was a nice encounter.”

This was just one of the many examples where Williams’ humble nature came to the fore. While her exploits on the court are no secret, Serena Williams is a legend in the true sense with her down-to-earth nature impressing many. That being said, she also knows who she is and does not underestimate herself.

In 2017, she stated, “I try to be so humble that I forget I have accomplished so much,” she said, explaining that hard work was key to her success.”

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian are known as one of the power couples in the celebrity world, both possessing a net worth in the nine-figures.

The pair met in Paris ahead of the 2015 French Open, and they were married two years later, in New Orleans. Ohanian is a co-founder of Reddit, which explains why he was staying at the same bougie hotel as Williams when they met.

Naturally, with Williams such a big star, there isn’t much the public doesn’t know about his, especially with her regular social media posts.

But that isn’t necessarily the case with Ohanian, who leads a less public life, albeit he finds himself in the public eye as part of Williams being such a point of interest for sports fans.

What people may not know is that Ohanian sufferers from Lymes disease, which is a disease that is usually transferred through tick bites. It’s estimated that 476,000 people are diagnosed and treated for the disease every year in the United States, and pop star Justin Bieber has documented his battle with it in the past.

Ohanian has posted on social media about his battle with Lymes disease and the steps he is taking to improve his health.

“Dragged my a** in here before flying out. Eating clean the last year… Just got another lipid panel back; LDL (bad cholesterol) has improved! It’s now 89,” he has posted.

He was diagnosed back in July, though it came as a surprise given he hadn’t spent much time in tick-prone areas.

However that hasn’t stopped him from battling the disease, turning to healthy eating to do so
