“I Speak The Truth” Gervonta Davis Makes His Feelings Perfectly Clear On Canelo vs Crawford

Gervonta Davis has shared his thoughts on the upcoming showdown between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford

It was announced shortly after Canelo’s victory against William Scull that the pound-for-pound stars would lock horns on September 12 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Canelo defeated IBF champion Scull via unanimous decision to re-capture the undisputed super-middleweight championship, becoming the first fighter in boxing history to achieve this feat during the ‘four belt era’.

With arguably the biggest fight in boxing now official, ‘Tank’ Davis has weighed in on the highly anticipated super-middleweight battle, as he reveals in a media scrum that he believes ‘Bud’ is fighting Canelo ‘for the money’

“Crawford needs the money. I’m telling you … That’s why he says he don’t like me, cause I speak real s**t.”

Davis was then asked if he believes the significant weight difference will play a factor on fight night, as Crawford prepares to step up two whole weight classes

“I ain’t trying to convince y’all that he can beat Canelo! He’s a good fighter, but… Bro, I would say smaller fighters are always better than bigger fighters cause they know how to move and things like that.”

Should Crawford be victorious against Canelo, the 37-year-old switch-hitter from Omaha would become a five-division world champion and the first fighter in male boxing history to win the undisputed championship in three weight classes

Terence Crawford vs. Canelo Alvarez is likely to be the biggest fight of 2025.

The two pound-for-pounds superstars are set to meet in Las Vegas in September, after a turbulent week that saw the fight reported to be on and off several times.

Canelo was linked to a clash with Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul which seemed to put the ‘Bud’ fight in jeopardy, but the Crawford bout was salvaged after the Mexican icon signed a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season.

The showdown will see Crawford step up two weight divisions from super-welterweight to super-middleweight, having only competed at 154lbs once before.

That came last August when he defeated Israil Madrimov to win the WBA super-welterweight title, becoming a four-weight world champion having previously reigned at lightweight, super-lightweight and welterweight.

It will require ‘Bud’ to add an extra 14lbs for the clash at 168lbs, with some fans concerned that the size difference could be far too much for the American in the fight.

Crawford may have put some of their minds at ease though, after revealing on social media that with just over seven months to go until the fight, he is currently weighing 186lbs, over 18lbs over the super-middleweight limit.

Before Canelo turns his attention to Crawford, the WBC, WBO and WBA champion will return in May for a clash against IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull, as Alvarez looks to once again become undisputed at 168lbs.

If Canelo is victorious, it means that Crawford could get another chance to become undisputed in September, having already claimed that honour at 140lbs and 147lbs during his career.
